Bah, that's nothing... I had at least two bushings on my '00 Explorer completely missing, once I found the situation I replaced the bushing with electrical tape (was camping at the time), drove much better :). I did eventually replace the links...

For me Ranger related I pulled the '97 into the shop to pull the exhaust to figure out the exhaust leak. Jacked up the passenger side and confirmed it was coming from the catalyst. Sprayed the 4 bolts with some lube then let it cool down for a little bit and went for taking it out, to my surprise after 215k and 25 years all 4 bolts came right out with no drama... Cut off the top heat shield and found two cracks, cleaned that and welded it up then welded the heat shield back on then cut the bottom shield off and found two more cracks, rinse and repeat... The welding was successful, it's back to being super quiet, I didn't take any chances and left the hose clamps around the heat shields even though I fixed the welds that were broken... The pic of the non fixed cracks is the top and the one of the welded cracks is the bottom... Could I have done it another way? Sure, would it have been more work and $$? Absolutely...

tomorrow i think i'm going to pull the interior out (again) so that i can replace the butyl tape on the rear window as well as install some heat shield under the carpet.

kicking myself b/c i did some more research for replacement seats and realized that the mustang i pulled the rear discs off of last week had PERFECT seats. I didn't realize at the time that they would work and didn't even open the door. 99.9% sure they are gone by now.. they look MINT in this photo

Is that the side you sit on?... snicker....
lol, If only. No, it was actually the passenger side. The rubber was so gone you could just wiggle the whole link around.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Little more progress on the truck today.

-Bought some cheapo rubber hangers (isolators?) from advance.. tried to get my bung-chaser but they were out of stock -__- so I ordered one of those as well as the last 45° elbow I need off scamazon.

-Post cat o2 bung got welded on.. no plug in it this time.. worked a charm 👍

-Also got the forward exhaust hanger rods welded to the frame & to the exhaust. The rear hanger will be welded to the bit of pipe downstream from the 45° elbow I just ordered.

Chaser & elbow should be here Friday.. so I should finally be able to call the exhaust completed next weekend 🤠 excited to fire it up and see what sort of raucous racket it makes while bouncing off the limiter 👍

Not those, well for standard spark plugs or O2 sensors, O2 sensors are 18mm threads and spark plugs are 14mm threads

None at all.
Diagnosing an AC issue after repairing the AC system. Looks like my fan clutch has gone bad. No overheating but the condenser is getting entirely to hot and the fan isn't making its usual whirling noise.

After experiencing annoying steering wheel vibration at high speeds on a long trip, I parked farther out on the driveway to unload and found stick-on wheel weights all over the driveway where this truck usually sits.

The adhesives had failed, there were still gummy spots on the inside of the wheels.

I put ABC balancing beads in all the wheels, so next time I run it on the highway I'll find out if they really work. They're supposed to be tempered glass with a silicone coating to prevent clumping.

many spark plug thread chasers have both 14 and 18mm threads.
older engines with the 13/16 hex have 18mm threads.

That'll do it. The same happened on my F-100 a while back, fortunately I knew it when it happened and knew what was coming. Got an appointment to get tires rebalanced around lunch time tomorrow. If it happens again, I'll be trying the beads too.

What's the worst that could happen?
This particular post should be titled "what dumb-ass thing did you I do today."

Truck's been running great for over two years now. Recently rpm would drop after startup from 1000 to 8-900. On Saturday last, I used the remote - which I often do to allow it to warm a bit. It fired up and stalled. Restarted and the same thing happened. So...I hadda walk all the way out to the barn and start it with the key - geez. It stalled again. WTF?

I found that by pumping it throttle I could get it to run. Took it for test run and could not go over 1500 rpm or it would stall and buck just do weird sh*t. Code said "low voltage, mass air flow sensor."

SO...for the next two days I pulled and reinstalled replacement sensors multiple times with no change.
Got out the EVT manual and discovered that I was mistakenly removing and replacing the throttle position sensor instead of the maf
SLAP me silly and call me Shirley (apologies to my sister named Shirley). ;brownbag;

Can someone please start a "what dumbass thing did you do to your Ranger today?" I need a thread I can win but I don't want to seem self-serving.

I finally pulled the camper shell off my 2008. I've been on the fence about it for a while but I prefer the real pickup feel of a Ranger.

Not sure what to do with it now. 🤷

I would take but i still have to find a straight bed thats red. I like having both beds so i can swap them as needed.

A stepside camper in red is apparently unobtainable anymore. And finding a stepside camper in any color is just one atep down
