Yeah, I’m pretty sure rust and rubbing killed my steel tank. I’m kicking around the idea of putting a plastic tank in my 88 when I get back to putting it back together. I don’t believe the tank that’s in there has any problems, but it might not be a bad idea to head off any potential problems. I figured I’d try coming up with a solution to the rubbing and stuff when I tear into it, but that’s an idea.If you haven’t had the pleasure of installing a new tank in one of these, there are a few spots that rub against the frame. I had one tank wear 3 pinholes. I bought some tape made by gorilla glue. It’s thick rubberized and I think 4” wide. I put patches of it everywhere the tank makes contact with the frame and under the straps. I think I remember seeing something similar on the factory tank but I’m not positive.
