Took it hunting and broke the transmission this week. I had planned to swap the FM146 out for a m5r1 but not this soon lol. With the lockers, I could drive on relatively flat ground through 30” of snow. On a hill, I’d have to make 20 yard runs. No chains, just aired down so the tires had a slight bulge, maybe 1/4”. The only reason the snow is so tore up in the first picture is because I tried to turn around in 2nd gear, with no reverse lol. She did unexpectedly good, until the trans crapped the bed.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

What did the dogs think about that maneuver? Wouldn’t want to be in their box during that.

Also, regarding that first photo. Nice selfie. You look a lot smaller and younger than I had imagined.

My bitches all would rather be in the box when the snow is that deep. My male, he prefers to be out, so he can hunt. The area was pretty flat, not more than a foot difference between front and rear tires. It didn’t bother the dogs at all. The snow is much smoother to drive in, because it covers the rocks which makes it much more enjoyable.

Yeah, she was upset because we were “stuck” and wanted to keep going lol.

My credo
The perfect is the enemy of the good.
Fixed passenger side door lock which was frozen. Actually took all of about one minute - sprayed wd40 on the back of it and it freed right up, works very freely now.
Absent power locks, having that side not working is really inconvenient when you are trying to pretend to be nice and open door for wife.

Part of tiny washer that goes around it disintegrated. Not a big concern, but do you know if I can get them? Should be able to stretch it around the lock face without taking off c-ring that holds lock to truck.

Also fixed tilt steering which was frozen.

performed some tool& die creativity and made a 1/4" drive 1-1/8 " socket for the front pinion nut so I can attach my 1/4 drive inch-pound torque wrench.

if you look close the first couple of threads are missing from the nut. I ground them off to make a shim checker nut.

I should have done that instead of making a leaning tower of adapters. For next time. You make a setup bearing too?

I just used a die grinder to open the center of the old bearings just enough that I could slide it on and off the pinion by hand.

Hey rowdy I’ve seen your 87 ranger with the 302 swap looks amazing! Just wondering how much bludgeoned you got on your fenders?

Thank you, the old fiberglass fenders or the stock fenders that I cut out?

Took my Ranger to a "Rigs & Coffee" event this morning. It was hosted by a group that enjoys overlanding. It was a pretty rainy morning for that. But met some people and saw some cool rigs.

I like this thing. Has approx. 3,000km on it. Just imported from Japan where it was a firetruck, hence the tall roof so fireman could wear their helmets. For sale at $65k. It has a diesel engine.
