hmmm. I have one drum brake that’s not replaced yet (drum is super STUCK). Could be a rusty brake pad smell? Power steering pump pulley had some play. Maybe burned, old PS fluid? Acc and timing Belt are new and still look fine.
Power steering pulley its ok to have some forward/backward play, like an 8th of an inch or so ,normal,

Mine kind of has a funny exhaust smell. I suspect the cat isn't doing it's thing any longer. Doesn't rattle or make any noise, Exhaust just smells strong. Ah well, it's a 98. Runs swell. CEL is blocked from view. I'll just keep on driving it.
If the cat's not doing it's thing, I would suggest calling a vet(erinarian).

Crossed threads are tight threads.
I have a smell and can’t determine where it’s coming from. I’ve smelled it before around other old cars. It’s seems exhausty but doesn’t smell like any kind of exhaust I’ve smelt. Kinda similarish to burning oil or rubber… but not. It’s almost a rancid, burning flesh smell. I can’t find where it’s coming from either. It’s like there are little pockets of the smell hanging all around the truck.

If you haven’t noticed, it’s hard to describe smells.
If its kinda like rotten eggs, your cat converters are bad.

I’m 99% sure it’s an exhaust smell. I put on a new MAF that appears to be faulty. The same smell still happens, but with a bit more of a gasoline tinge. Engine runs a good bit worse on occasion too. Returning it and am waiting on a Motorcraft sensor. Hopefully it hasn’t gone bad from sitting on a shelf for a decade or two.

Yepparoo. Sent that new maf back and got a reman motorcraft. Smell seems to be gone. Ordered a new maf from Fordpartsgiant, and after two weeks they finnaly found out it was discontinued and they don’t have any. Site still says it’s in stock tho. Not sure about that site now.

The reman maf looks worse than my original, but I guess it’s got new guts in it cause it seems to work.
