Weird Starter problem

Had ""STARTER RUN ON""........ today, it FINALLY started, and the starter quit spinning, Solenoid issue? Thanks guys hope everyones enjoying the beautiful weather!

Usually is the relay mounted on the fender, especially if it has been replaced recently. You can't buy anything that is reliable anymore. Keep trying different brands till you find a good one.

Starter circuit failure?

inside the solenoid are 2 large contacts & a disc, if the starter (solenoid) is an old well used piece it would not be unusual for the disc & the contacts to have worn away to the point where they no longer close the circuit which enables the armature to spin, so what happens is one turns the key & you get nothing.

The relays (BWD etc.) sold by at least O'Reillys are designed defective, there was a write up on a FSB ? forum a few years ago. Basically there are two electrical parts needed inside the relay so it does not weld shut and the cheap China and Mexico ones only have one. I went through a bunch of them on an Aerostar and literally tested them out of the box at the counter to prove they were bad. I did the same measuring the starter noses on for teh 2.8 and 3.0L that kept breaking. Basically they were giving manual transmission starters for automatics. The missing part is something such as a $0.01 resistor who's sole function is to slow down the engagement of the contacts so they do not spot weld together.
