Check fuel pressure. Tank is downhill from the pump which is downhill from the engine. If the pump is getting weak and the hill was steep enough it might be just the perfect storm.

Im assuming its a 2.9. If its a 2.8 with a carb it could be carb/float related as well.

I have the same problem. On a slight hill I cannot get past 2000 rpms in third gear. New tank, both pumps and filters 45psi pressure.

the grey-t escape
when mine is below 1/4 tank its that way, im using a inline summit efi pump in the framerail to pull fuel through the stock pump & push it to the engine. If I stay above 1/4 tank (1/2 to be safe) it never misses a beat.

I had one tech say the motor is shot. I need a new short block. WTH? Most techs are just throwing darts. It's hard to find someone who knows this motor.

It's hard to find one that can fix anything without ODBII.

groovtubin,

The only thought I had is if the fuel in your tank was low enough, since the pumps is toward the front, it is possible that if the fuel level were low enough, the fuel had all sloshed to the rear. If on a steep enough incline, with little enough fuel, perhaps it was starving the in tank pump.

Its possible but doubtful, ask for a compression check.

Truthfully the symptoms you describe sound like classic clogged cat.

I found a shop with techs that have that equipment. Only thing is they want my B2 for a month.

I pulled my cat and it was black. I read that this symptom indicates a clogged air filter and/or leaking, defective fuel injector(s)
