so i want to permanently weld the spider gears in my d35. people are telling me that you cant weld it cause the gears are cast, so im wondering if anyone knows if they are and how can i do it. since i have manual hubs i can just unlock them for the street, im not worried about the axle cause i plan on doing a solid axle eventually

Its been done a billion times. The spider gears are not cast. Go for it.

I did it, no problem.

just burn it in nice and hot.

I would ONLY recommend doing this to a trail rig, and to NEVER use 4x4 with a welded front diff on the street, you will NOT be able to steer.

I wanted to do this and everyone told me I wouldn't be able to steer at all when in 4wd.

Its no different than me running a Lock-Rite. Your turning radius is affected, but its not that big of a deal at all.

on the trail, you learn to control your turning with throttle :)

I have never found my Aussie to hinder my steering at all on the trail. Might be different on a shorter wheelbase rig I suppose.

My Aussie hinders mine quite a bit. I'm doing a lot more 3 point turns than I used to.

my lockright definitely hindered my steering on the trail on my old rig, however not as much as the welded diff.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
with stockish power its not too bad, you get up around 300hp and you will empty the junkyards of d35 parts if you use the power.

The turning radius of my supercab already sucked, so the lockrite did make a difference but it was not a shocking difference.
