Wally World no longer carries 5W-30? 5W-20 declared the "new norm"??

All of a sudden, Wal-Mart carries NONE of the synthetic oils in 5W-30, only 5W-20...

WTHey--Autozone, Valvoline Quick Oil Change centers, and apparently the entire planet (incl. FoMoCo?) say ignore that owner's manual, and use the -20 weight viscosity, you motoring fools...

They still carry it north of the border at Walmart and Canadian Tire, but there's definitely less shelf space going to "heavier" weight oils. Have you checked around other Walmarts? I'm curious if it might be supply chain issues making the problem worse in your part of the world.

I pay more for cheap oreilly's brand crap than I do the synthetic blend I get for my dd at wally world.

Motorcraft 5W20 is hard to find at walmart though, at least around here.

The ol' FL1A has gotten rather painful, they used to be $3.something a couple years ago, now they are $9.something.

Subaru is going to keep going to 0W0 in a vain effort to meet CAFE fuel economy requirements... even if 100% of their engines blow up instead of 75%.

I (think) the 400s is a smaller filter canister but same thread/gasket as the fl-1a, think the taurus 3.0 (among other vehicles) used it. If it will physically fit you can put a fl-1a in the same spot. I did that on a 93 taurus, tight but did fit.

Does a FL-1A fit in your truck? I'm genuinely curious. I know it wouldn't in mine. I've been cracking jokes in this thread I know but I've watched a few teardowns of the FL-400S and it does get very positive reviews. Rockauto has them for about 5 bucks a pop... I change them pretty often.

I just bought 5w30 at Costco. Kirkland brand. Two 5 qt bottles for $35.99.

I order oil filters from Rockauto when I make an order from them. Otherwise, I order Purolator Tech filters on Amazon for $2.45.

Yeah i about choked last time i bought an FL1A.


I only run 10w40 in my ranger...but even 10w30 can be iffy at china-mart. I use that in my 460
