My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
on some transmissions, if it is pulled/installed onto the block using the bell housing bolts without the torque converter being
lined up correctly/exactly, the converter is pushed in to the pump causing it to fail. then nothing will happen in any gear.
not saying this was how it was done but even if it was assembled the last inch or so like this, the pump will be toast
I was gonna say you might have toasted the pump too. +1

I'll definitely double check when I drop the trans next weekend.
Are you sure the torgue converter dropped in ALL the way?
I've had many feel like they dropped, but I kept spinning and pushing like a stubborn donkey and sure enough it drops in some more.
I will definitely double check when I drop the teams again next weekend.

you can check to see if the converter is fully seated while it's still in the truck.
remove/loosen all 4 converter nuts. if you can then rotate the converter to make the studs clunk from side to side in the holes it isn't binding.

Thanks, I'll try it before I drop the tranny.

Okay so my tranny is toast. I'm going to attempt a rebuild. What is the proper way to replace the overdrive scrag bearing? Do you just tap it out and tap the new one in?

When you pull an automatic they lose more fluid than a guy thinks. I am 2/2 putting in an automatic and thinking I have trans problems until I put more fluid in it.

Unfortunately I ended up pulling the tranny and tearing it down. The pump is absolutely burned up and one of the pump gears is welded to the spacer plate.
