so on an 89 bii i can not get my speedo cable/vss to plug in to my transfer case, is the plastic part"vss" supposed to slide into the tcase or just mount flush with it? because mine just mounts flush, and theres just a tiny hole in the spot for it to mount for the speedo cable to go in, but its still not hooked up right, its kind of a disaster lol. it almost looks like an old VSS was cracked off inside the tcase or something. i can get some pics later if need be. thanks

should look something like this.. but w/ a plastic gear on the end opposite of the wiring. the gear goes into the t/case to mate up w/ the drive gear inside the t/case.

should go up to that flat bar where the bolt goes in. the bar should be flush w/ the outside of the t/case. i thought i had some pics of mine, but guess i don't

my vss only goes to like to where the clip is in that pic that bolts it on, so im guessing the rest of it is whats broke off inside the tcase right?

i can see this being a very not fun job

Two narrow flat blade screw drivers. I just had to do this on my 87. I got at it with two drivers, one on either side and pry out.

If that doesn't work, walk it out. Pry out with one, then get it with the other, and so on. They are a pain to get out when they break like that. I thought I was gonna have to take the t-case apart to get it out for a while.

That sounds like it may work. Just make sure you take the bolt out first. Hit the junk yard. I just had to replace mine because the little shaft inside broke. I think it was $6.
