Not my point. You need more than a motor to make go go... can a raptor squat and get full traction to the wheels? It's a truck... at some point power is just for show and not doing anything for you because you can't put that power to the ground.

If you google it there is a company in South Africa that is putting a 5.0 Coyote and a manual in a 2WD Ranger. I would hazard a guess that this might be a result of that. Still, I'd drive a v8 Ranger even if it was only 2WD.

Why does it have to be a raptor. Nobody complained about the lightning being too slow. Or the 454SS Silverado. Or the SRT10 Ram. Or the TYPHOON. All of those were trucks built for speed, not for trailriding in the mud, and every single one sold, and most of those ppl added power and are easily in the 500hp range. And could probably carry a load better, because of the stiff suspension thay had. Where the Raptor can't carry a load as good because of the soft suspension. I think the GMC was AWD too.

Cyclone and Typhon were AWD. They were also sent out to be upfitted. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the company... but I did work on some of the electrical integration and was on their build floor.

Comparing a typhoon to a raptor is like... well that's a pretty funny analogy on it's own. What did those things actually make? 250hp? :icon_rofl:

PAS (Production/Prototype Automotive Services).

280hp@4,400rpm wasn't back in '90.

my point is, there is, and always will be, a market for trucks to go fast. 250hp in the 90's on a less than 4k lbs. was nothing to scoff at.
the Cyclone was the first car somebody put a $20 bill on the dash, told me to grab it, he punched the accelerator, and put me into the seatback before I could get that bill. as a young teenager, I was very impressed.

When new, the Syclone/Typhoon offered Ferrari beating straight line performance. For a fraction of the price. In a truck package.

The comparison to a Raptor is surprisingly fitting. Google says a new Raptor runs identical 0-60 and 1/4 mile times as the Sy/Ty twins (5.3s and 14.1s respectively). They're both very impressive machines for their day. The Sy/Ty was lighter weight, but much lower tech and power. The Raptor has tons more power and the benefit of 30 years more power train and software tech to it's advantage, but it weighs a literal ton more than the older GMs too.

If it's just power to weight my 200hp fiesta should beat a raptor?

Should be close, I think they run about a 14sec quarter which is about what my 200hp Eclipse was rated.

My 65 can brake 110... but itll get there damn fast. it simply runs out of gears. Put in higher gears and an overdrive itll do 200. I run a top loader and 4.56 gears. Who the hell needs to go 200?

I worked on a 14 or 15 950 hp boss 302. It was a mean car but with street tires I could have kept up with it with my 65 on a track. 300hp stuck is faster than 900hp spinning. Strapped to a dyno means nothing.
My old Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 was the same. Really fast acceleration, but no top end. A Muncie M22 and 4.11 gears take care of that. On the highway in top gear, 20 mph fr every 1000 rpms. 60 mph at 3000, 80 at 4, 100 at 5. That was about it. But man, the acceleration was ferocious, and I could chirp the tires in every gear, even at 80 mph going into 4th. The good old days.

Pretty good description of a Lightning. Too much power, not enough traction. Even the factory 380 hp was too much for the tires. Mine is about 450, has JLP longbars (traction bars), a custom made panhard bar, and I run Nitto 555Rs in 305/45. Still smokes them anytime I just drop the hammer. I have to pussy foot it to get it going, then once moving, I can drop it and get a decent takeoff. Even then, sometimes it just lights them up.
