I just pulled out the original 2.9 motor and 5sp transmission 88 ranger, I am in the process of cleaning up the engine bay before I place a 5.0 in there. My question is i am pulling the engines wiring harness with the cpu so i am able to put a fuel injected system in, but is the lights (head/tail/turn signal lights) connected to the cpu at all or does that connect to fuse box? Also any advice that you may think of is always appreciated

Lights are separate, no computer connection

Look here: http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/EDiagrams/index.htm

That should give you some idea of the 1988 wiring
You could have Fusible link or fuse, or both for the lights

Fusible links are for the most part connected to Starter Relay's Battery post
