So i jad a Sonata, recently traded it for a Santa Fe. Do not like it at all. It's got some nice features but i would rather have a ford in the driveway. So im looking at a few used cars to trade my new one for.
I really like this FLEX.

But this Edge is pretty nice too

Last option is a fusion hybrid

I would love some feedback from ppl who may know these vehicles a little better. I'm going to test drive them today after lunch.

Whenever I go to look at a car for sale, the first thing I do is look underneath. Look for rust, leaks, old parts, new parts, etc. Then obviously test drive it, get it up to 75 if you can, be hard on it because lets face it, you'd rather it break at the dealer and not in your driveway. Dealerships will bend over backwards to make a sale (good ones will at least). Don't leave without getting something thrown in even if its oil changes/tire rotations but I would shoot for new tires or a hitch if it doesn't have a hitch. These are items that are easy for a dealer to eat when they make a 15-20k sale.

If those were the choices... I would drive away in the Edge.

We had an 11 Edge with a 3.5... gave us years of service with no issues... except the brake booster. It was just over mileage to have it replace at the dealer when it failed. Other then regular maintenance and a couple batteries over the years it was a winner in my book. The thing is now driven by my daughter well north of 200K.

Id prolly go for the flex honestly. They seem to be a black sheep but i kinda like them, look good and seem to be pretty decent sized,

There all new enough to where they shouldnt have any real issues.

If i needed an actual car car, and you didnt mind going a bit older, anything built on a panther platform (CV/Marquis/Town car), IMO cant be beat.

I like the flex too @rusty ol ranger , and the Edge is very similar to the Santa Fe on options and size. They actually have about 15 Rangers now, 3 of them white with steelies, but they have a few that are in my price range, and dont look too bad. I may take a peek at some of those too, but my wife would probably flip, because, it's her car im replacing and she dont want a truck. And i would have to get rid of my Ranger and Nissan amd probably sleep on the couch for a while. Those are her 3 choices, i just want the best of those for her.

Back to the Flex, it seems to be an oddball and they just canceled production this year, how would parts availability be for these,

Edge is a good car, we have 240k on our '08 and it drives like a new one (with a little upkeep from time to time)

It is kind of small for me, I probably wouldn't have picked it out of a lineup. Flex is AWESOME inside but for you you might see if you can ditch the AWD mpg penalty and find a FWD version (if they exist)

They made Flexes for a long time and they share parts with other cars, I wouldn't worry too much about parts availability.

You look at any escapes?

My wifes 2010 has been a good ride. Kinda nutless with the 2.5 but its reliable and pulls almost 30mpg.

given the choices, I would say the Edge. the Flex is nice if you need the room, but 17k for a 7 year old car? jeesh... Fusions are great cars too, but you will not have the utility of the SUV. but if all you need to do is ferry yourself and a few people around, the Fusion will fit the bill.

We have a 2015 Escape S with the 2.5 and love it. Not sure what is gutless about it, yeah granted it is not a powerhouse but it has more than enough power to get out of its own way, probably has better get up and go from stop than my 2010 Buick Lucerne. We picked it up for a hair over $12k with only 46,000 miles on it earlier this year.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
My mom has a flex. Different engine (NA 3.8l?). It’s fairly nice. I drive it occasionally. Maintenance hasn’t been too bad. She had front wheel bearings go bad a while back. I replaced pass side window regulator. That was easy. Not a bad vehicle. I personally don’t like the way it looks.

Then it gets into a tradeoff of size/space and gas mileage. Bigger vehicle=worse mileage. As much as she drives on a daily basis gas mileage matters. The santa fe has a 180 hp 2.4 na i4 and averages about 22 -26 mpg, but i would be willing to trade a few mpg's for more umph! Im thinking a v6 edge would get similar gas mileage but have more power

But that awd Flex looks so cool to me. I saw one on the JY a while back' and was impressed with how much space that was back there.

Maybe they make more power then the older ones then. I know my buddys ol lady has a 2016 fusion with a 2.5 and he says it scoots.

My 2.9L will beat her escape up untill the point gearing and torque take a backseat to aerodynamics and HP. Seriously.

My F250 will annilate it.

Maybe its messed up?

Well, the Flex is too old for me to finance, without taking it up the ace hole, the Fusions trunk is compromised with batteries, but very nice, and the Edge was just right for me. After talking with them, i will have negative equity and might as well look at something new, so the talk with the wife will be tonight, new Fusion or new Ranger, hopefully with rebates and stuff it will offset the negative equity. Or i just keep the ugly duckling of a santa fe that i have and grind it out for a few more years,
