Sorry for the confusion Railman, i'm terrible at wording stuff. What I should have asked is which company would you go with for a universal winch mount?:icon_thumby:

:icon_confused::icon_confused::icon_confused: I'm not sure where to begin with reading that. My brain actually hurts trying to figure it out.

As for the original post, I think Harbor Freight has a universal winch mount.

I'm planning on a front receiver hitch, that way I can have a winch on the front or back. Just have to run power both ways too. And then something like this. not this one but one like it.

I found that universal mounts are a nightmare without cutting and welding it to the frame. Especially the pre 97 with the crumple frame design, a flat spot needs to be added for it to work properly.

A receiver is best.

If I'm not mistaken, and I very well could be, but the "Universal" part of "Universal Winch Mount" is in reference to universal to winches not vehicles.

I used a WARN Universal Winch mount to mount my SmittyBilt winch to mine. Then a buddy of mine welded it to my frame. Here's a pic before powder coating.

if your putting a front reciever on it then all you need is a piece of 2" square stock drill some holes in it and weld a winch bolting plate on it, the plate usually comes with the winch, or even take an old 2" tougue and weld it on there

Thanks Scotty J, thats exactly what I was needing to hear and what I was needing to see. Your truck is the same year range as mine, the front valance is already gone and steel portion of the bumper painted black, so a setup like what you did would be perfect for my '04. I appreciate the info and the pics buddy. BTW, your truck looks awesome.:icon_cheers:

Thanks man, and no problem. The welds have held up without any cracking or flaking. I've pulled a jeep, an explorer and a Nissan Versa up hills and out of harms way and it's not missed a lick. But that speaks to my buddy's welding skills and the SmittyBilt XRC8, all i did was stand on the brake and run the handset for the winch LOL.

I think Jesse at JN Wrecker can do the welding for me and it hold up just fine. We built a 1200 pound push bumper for his '67 Kenworth big rig wrecker, and its been put through hell and back many times and its still solid on the front of the truck.
