I need u joints for my rear driveshaft in my 86 ranger. I would prefer an aftermarket brand or spicer. Im lost with the numbers and such. Is there a specific part number or u joint type my truck uses? I dont want the ones at advance auto as they are a little cheesy.

My credo
the grey-t escape
define "cheesy"? as long as theyve got grease fittings and your able to put more grease in them, i wouldnt fear them. i put some no-name ball joints in from autozone about 7 or so years ago, their still good, grease them twice a year (when i change from winter to summer wheels and back) my front axle U-joints arent greaseable, not sure where i bought them (probly autozone) theyve been there almost 10 years now, although they mostly run 2 months out of the year. my rear driveshaft U-joints are still original, not sure how ive managed that, but they are. on edit: just looked them up for my truck, 11 bucks per joint, and they do come with grease zerks. ; http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-U-Joint/1993-Ford-Ranger-4WD/_/N-izrifZ6o242?counter=5&filterByKeyWord=u+joint&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=39545_0_1439_4139,7892

The tech library has a wonderful article about u-joints. I bet it will answer most of your questions.

I went to AutoZone when I replaced mine. That was 4 years ago and I have not had any issues. They looked up my truck and had the parts there. Took me about 45 min to replace them.

Yeah I looked at the tech library but I was leaning more toward aftermarket where they have certain part #s. Ok, Im gonna see if they have them in stock now.
