Driving the F-150, pulling the big trailer loaded with my auction goodies and Blam starting out in first. Couldn’t get the bolts to budge on the other end of the shaft (bent the heck out of a 12mm 12 point wrench though), so I knocked out that U-joint, locked the hubs, yanked it in 4x4 and limped home. Made for some interesting road manners running up the highway and all, about 30 miles…

Would have been a Gilligan’s Island 3 hour trip since the gas tank and fuel system came home in the back of the F-150 because it was all plugged up and I think the top speed of the tractor is only like 9 mph

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That makes me wonder. How many miles would be driven to bush hog a 5 acre field? That 5 acre number is just for sake if discussion. But I think there is something psychological here. Driving 19 miles down the road seems to take forever and "sucks". Yet, driving the same tractor for an hour or 2 bush hogging or doing so.e other meaningful work can almost be relaxing and therapeutic. I used to enjoy jumping on Uncle Phil's Ford 6610 and going out to mow. If the dust wasn't too bad and kicking up my allergies, that is. Listening to the diesel and enjoying the sunshine was enjoyable.

I guess it would depend on the size of the bushhog. But that is a good question.

I think the biggest reason road going sucks so much at tractor speed is the fact the only way to measure your progress is how fast the tree 1/2 mi ahead is coming up. As to where if your mowing or plowing you can look and see alot of progress in relation to the speed youre traveling.

Exactly. Plus, we are accustomed to going much faster on the road in other vehicles. We expect to get to point B a lot faster. (Except on I-85 around here during rush hour)

You ever drive an old Ford N series with a sherman trans? Im not sure how fast it went in High 4th, but it was scary. That thing could cover some miles in a hurry (well for a tractor), i wouldnt be surprised if WOT it was running 20mph+

The only thing I really don't like about road driving is dealing with cars.

Almost caught an idiot with the combine Saturday. At the end of my road, both the combine and chase truck had left blinker on to turn off the highway onto my gravel road. Right before the combine went to turn a moron in a little suv passes us both.

I see that shit everyday. Its no worse then bein in a semi. We can take comfort in knowing we'll more then likely come out on top.

When i drove my cub down the road i almost got taken out by another tractor. Scared the piss out of me.

On a dirt road going around a curve. I was on my side approaching curve and here he came. Didnt even see me cause...you guessed it...on his phone...taking up 3/4 of my lane.

Not sure what model but it was a massive modern john deere with a big push blade on front. I felt like a mouse gettin surprised by a elephant.

He got dual fingers

... and all those hairpin turns on your road.
That was before the turns, I was leading about 30 other tractors on a tractor ride last summer.
