But... its not for a F-250
Well, a couple yards changed owners since I’ve gone after one and if they ask what it’s for I will just lie and say my F-350. The one I got I bought from a yard that wouldn’t argue with me because they knew me and what I do with trucks, unfortunately they’re about 2 hours north of me.

Or I’ll just confuse the heck out of them and tell them it’s for my F-200 and show up in my F-150 that has no badging and sits like an F-250

one thing about the zf......they get pulled and shelved before the carcasses get final combat in the shredder.

but still hold a premium. 600 is about as cheap as i have ever found them readily but they are rare in any case. there is a reason they dont offer manuals anymore in the f series.....or just about anything.

I just popped on marketplace quick last night, seems like $7-800 for a trans (most are BB or diesel) or like a grand for a rotted but running/driving complete 5.8 truck.

I don’t remember exactly what I paid for mine, but it was less than $600, of course prices have gone up on a lot of stuff since I bought it. If I can snag one out of the one somewhat local junkyard (I’d have to pull it myself), manual transmissions are $175 and transfer cases are about $125. Down side is it’s all luck of the draw and there’s a quick turnover of vehicles there.

$200/transmission at u pull it and they don't care what it is here.

Of course extraction is on the buyer...

I hate crap like that in the JY, end up using a jack handle as a chisel with a brake caliper for a hammer type fun like a cave man.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I’d never work like that at home. But at “The Yard”, it’s oddly satisfying

Kinda depends.

Something big like a transmission is a huge time suck anyway. Especially when I live an hour away.

Like my M5OD, I had everything I thought I would need to pull the trans... but no. In order to get the trans out you have to slide it back obviously. But there is only like an inch between the t-case and the crossmember that holds the torsion bars to the frame. So then we ended up blowing all that apart as crudely as possible before we could even do the thing we went there to do.

I know, it's dumb, I kinda need a ZF5 for my F350 since the front bearing bore for the counter shaft is toast, it's like $1200 for a whole transmission (S5-47) or a couple hundred less for just the front half of the case... annoyingly I think I'll just end up pulling the dumb thing and seeing if I can redneck it better than I did last time, I have more dumb ideas :). From what I assume you shouldn't be able to smell ATF on a manual transmission that isn't leaking while pulling a mountain pass in 3rd... Pretty sure the answer is another 75 or so horsepower so I can just hold 4th...

Ok, back on topic I have no idea, going slower than normal low range in a Ranger would be nice, I'm very used to 5.13 gears and 35" tires but I have like negative torque on the low end with the 8:1 4 cylinder... that and I don't play on the rocks much, mostly sand, snow and dirt trails... For the explorer I'm planning on a similar setup but it's a V8 with 4406 and 4R70W with 5.13's and 36's or 37's it should be pretty decent I think... I'd like to be able to twin stick that but BW cases aren't doable and space is limited in that thing at least for now...
