2.5L ('98-'01) Truck takes a while to start then dies

For the compression test. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Remove all the spark plugs. Prop open the carburetor or throttle plate with a large screwdriver. Crank the engine at least 4 times. Write down the psi. All readings should be within 15% of each other. If not then add a couple squirts of motor oil to each cylinder just before doing another compression test. If the compression comes up on the bad cylinder this shows if the rings are bad. Otherwise it's likely the valves.
