Truck’s Computer Version Correct?

I moved the computer / brain from under passenger footwell so as to do some bodywork behind it and on the back I was surprised to see a different truck model written on it.
Mine is a 1989 2.9 4x4 Automatic..
Not a 2WD

Anything to even consider here or are they all just the same and cross compatible?

There may be a difference between the 4wd and 2wd ECM's if you have an electronic shift transfer case, as it depends on the speed sensor, which communicates with the ECM.
I have doubts that your ECM is actually what someone wrote on it with a Sharpie. I did a search for the ECM model E9AF14A624AA that is printed on the connector of your ECM, and I couldn't find a single Ranger associated with that #. Looking at the listings at Rock Auto, every '89 Ranger ECM is either a E9TF12A650** or E9TZ12A650** (the asterisks are 2 letters that designate which version is applicable for your Ranger of that year model).

4x4 system in all year Rangers was autonomous, so 2WD or 4WD didn't matter to computer at all

Engine size and transmission type mattered, and EGR or no EGR

In 2001 Rangers got OSS sensor for speed, it is on the transmissions output shaft(output shaft speed, OSS)
So in 2001 to 2011 the computer does have a hook up to 4x4 Control Module, actually to the 4 Low light on dash
In 2001 and up the Computer sends out the Speed signal to speedometer
So in 4Low(light on) it would adjust the speed signal down for the 4low ratio

But as far as I know all 2001-2011 computers have that ability just never used unless its a 4x4

I guess I’ll just assume all is well.
Not trying to overthink it, but there are various electronic mods on this truck and at least one owner worked at a shop so I wouldn’t be surprised if some pretty deep parts swaps were made.

The ECMs on these older trucks really only controlled engine functions and overdrive (on automatics anyways).

No reason to overthink it, ill about gurantee 110% and electronic mods are totally independent of the ECM

Contrary to what some people think, the pinouts of the ECM's and the schematics of the electronic 4x4 shift system don't lie. The speed sensor inputs to the ECM, and plays a part in the 4x4 electronic shift system. An automatic transfer case will not shift into 4 low while the truck is moving due to the signal that the speed sensor is sending to the ECM. It may not make a difference with a manual transfer case, but otherwise it will.

Up thru 2000 the speed signal goes TO the PCM/ECM and 4x4 Controller, from a VSS sensor they share
2001 and up the speed signal COMES FROM the PCM/ECM(via OSS) and goes out to 4x4 Controller

Yes, 4low needs 0MPH and Neutral, but not a separate function of PCM/ECM, meaning PCM/ECM is the same for 2WD or 4x4, so there is no such thing as a 2WD or 4x4 PCM in a Ranger, they are all the same in that respect

Seen plenty of F*rd where part number is right and strategy is wrong on brain box because someone put wrong brain in wrong F*rd.

I dont think GTE is 2.9 ranger code, but need to see both sides of your box connecter to know. Might be.

8DT and a few others are manual. Autos are band camp, so don't know off top of head.

1989 to1992 according to Cardone. Here is a factory 1990 2.9 auto 4 wheel drive. Removed when I converted to 4 speed and put a new one in for manual. F0TF-12A650-BGA
