Alright, here goes.
Thursday: Got into the KOA at about 6:45, and set up camp just before nightfall.
Friday: Got a nice pic of the crew from the side, before heading out for the day. I went out with my friend Micah who came along with me, and we explored some forest service trails as well as cemeteries.
This is also the day when the truck got super muddy, we were on a 100 trail that turned rapidly into a 300 trail, which I didn’t see on my GPS. So we went through a few nice mud puddles.
Later, I ended up running into
@85_Ranger4x4 ,
@Mrs. Eighty Five , and
@TechMouse and tagged along with them for the rest of the day. We mainly found scavenger hunt items.
We found the abandoned bus, as well as Justin finding a very old head gasket from a flathead straight six of some variety.
Then we went to St. Steven’s church, was very cool to see this piece of history kinda frozen in time. You can really see the mud now.
We also found some bison, down in the south prairie by the homestead.
Near the prairie was an old iron furnace, still in very good shape.
After that, we headed back to camp. TechMouse had been having some intermittent engine issues, so he and I headed straight back while Justin and his family stopped for ice and gas.
Back at camp we got to watch
@Uncle Gump making up some delicious campfire pizzas. They were amazing!
Saturday: More scavenger hunt hunting, as well as trail exploring. Still
@85_Ranger4x4 and his fam, as well as
@Uncle Gump and Noah (not sure his screen name).
Found a beagle in a Ranger before we left!
First stop was Casey Jones distillery. TechMouse ended up running into us here. He and Noah stayed behind and did the tour, the rest of us took some pics, browsed the shop, and left.
On the way back we saw a horse and buggy in a nearby town.
Then we went to Hotel California, wandered around and picked up some trash. That place is very cool but has an extremely eerie atmosphere at the same time.
Next we stopped by Hematite lake, another scavenger hunt spot.
Final stop for the day was the Cleo Griffin home. He was the last person to leave the LBL, moving to a nursing home in 1989. He passed in 2000, since then his house has fallen into disrepair. Evidently a volunteer group is working to stabilize and eventually restore the house, hence the chain link fence.
Back at the KOA, the sunset was incredible.
We had the price drawing and cake, thanks to all our sponsors who gave us products to raffle off.
Sunday: Packed up and headed out. Not before having a group photo (or two) though.
And, of course, a photo of
@bobbywalter ‘s beast.
