It all starts with a 12volt cooler...

But the thought of not having to buy ice and cooler water intrusion into my food items was just to big to ignore.

You do whatever you want. I won't interfere. @Robertmangrum.rm has a nice setup. I love it. I wouldn't want any more than that. I just can't wrap my head around how to get all that on my truck. I could put a battery under my bed. And maybe the inverter, too. But I would worry about water crossings getting it all wet.

We can make it happen. We can put the inverter behind your seat and run a surge strip to where ever you'd like to have 110 power.

I don't understand why everyone thinks hey need all this electrical stuff for camping. I can see the refrigerator/ freezer units eliminating the need to find ice rvery few days. And charging a phone and some camera batteries, maybe even run a computer occasionally on long trips so you can transfer files off camera cards. But I have seen people doing electric coffee makers, all kinds of lights, A/C units, pumps for showers, etc. That's a lot of unnecessary weight to carry and that stuff takes a lot more space. Many will tell you that overlanding is about being self-sufficient for extended periods. But a lot of this stuff is what I call glamping. I'm sure some are really overloading their vehicles without modifying suspension.

To each his own, I guess. I don't have the money for all that. Plus I'm lazy. I don't want more stuff to unpack and repack at every campsite. If it doesn't fit in a single cab Ranger, you probably don't need it.

It really all depends on what you are doing, overlanding is not a once size fits all thing.

One guy I follow in Australia, he has a popup camper conversion and basically a toaster oven in the back of his car. So he can pull over a ways from camp and put supper in. Rolls into camp, takes less than a minute to pop the top and his supper is ready when he gets there. So like 5 minutes after he rolls into camp his camp is set and he is eating supper. Car has a water pump and water heater so he can have a hot shower anywhere.

Unpacking and repacking is such a time suck, its a big reason why I have spent the better part of a year prepping my truck so I can sleep in the back of my truck to at least get the tent out of the equation.

I can agree with the setup and tear down. It is a big reason we don't do much weekend camping trips. As time goes on and I'm able to get more overlanding oriented camping equipment, the posibility of doing weekend trips becomes more do able.

The bed on the 2019 is just too short and the current setup won't work for more than one person anyway. It's going to need an RTT in order to work and probably the same for the 2011. It depends on what I can work out when I build a proper drawer system for each of the trucks.

In anycase, speed and simplicy is very important for the overlander. As far as the heating food, I can't remember the name of it, but there is a drawer type electric oven/toaster that is a favorite of the Austrialian overlanders. They use it to cook/heat food while they are driving to the next location. That way, once they park and finish setting up, the meal is ready right away.

Like my Skamper is cool but it is heavy and bulky (and not very very durable) to go dragging thru the trees offroad. That thing would add some weight but it would plow thru air/trees like the normal topper that it is.

Do it the old fashioned way. Wrap your food in foil and put it on the engine to cook. All you need is a roll of foil. And yes, I have done that a few times.

On the whole pizza thing…

My preference, when I can find a decent one, is Detroit style pizza or wood fired. But I like food and pizza so as long as it isn’t red painted cardboard, I’ll usually eat some. I think most people don’t have any sort of taste though, or else the painted cardboard wouldn’t sell at all. But those are probably the people raised on ketchup and chicken nuggies (the ones that look like rubber erasers for us old fogies).

The best pizza I’ve ever had was from a wood fired pizza shop down in Key West. Thin crust but it was soft. Pizza tasted like it had been smoked, not just wood fired. The pizza that @Uncle Gump and @ericbphoto make for us is dang close to that. Maybe I should split up and bring some Hickory wood for the fire this year…

You know how for the last 10 years or so our plugs have one prong wider than the other prong for polarity? Do you guys know if it’s the opposite in Australia because it’s the other side of the world?

Most of the world uses different plug designs completely and some place of the world have some really sketchy electrical

I thought that they had to do that, because the water goes down their drains backwards from ours.

Their plugs are configured differently. Their standard voltage is in the 220VAC range and the frequency is 50hz instead of the 60hz we use. This conforms go what a majority of countries use.
