I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Look at you all with your fancy rooftop and truck bed tents and overlanding gear.

I want a bed tent for my Ranger but I have the step side which complicates things….

So I’m bringing a regular tent.
I have a fancy roof top tent. Do you know what slept in last year? A regular ground tent.
The RTT is great for when I take my SxS somewhere and don’t need to move the truck for a weekend. For a trip like this where I’ll be using the truck for the daily excursions, a ground tent is the best choice.

I’m still playing this by ear. I’ve marked off time to come to this, and at this point, so has Lisa. I don’t know if either truck will be in shape or if I’ll have the money at this point though. Ranger has a few issues still, but the big thing is the hitch is shot. So I need to build a hitch bumper for it. I have most or all of what I need to do that, just need time to get after it.

Choptop needs the rear axle replaced. I have access to a Ranger 8.8” with 4.10 gears to match the front, but it’s an open rear and spring perches would have to be moved. I have an Explorer 8.8, but it’s not the correct gears and also open. I can pick up a lunchbox locker for less than $300 for the Explorer axle, but for the Ranger axle it’s over $500. Then there’s the front axle where I still have to resolve the axle pivot brackets incorrectly locating the front axle so I can get the axle shafts back in, so more welding and fabrication. Ideally I’d throw a locker in the D-35 while I’m at it, but now we’re talking more money.

So I’m gonna thrash around as much as I can and hope for the best. If anyone feels like sending a locker or two (or has some 4.88 gears for both axles) that they don’t want anymore, it would be welcome, lol

You don't need a locker for this trip. I'd venture to say you could do 90% of without 4wd. Most everything is on pretty well maintained forest roads.

You’re right that a locker isn’t a need for the trip. Heck, the last trip I made it to I ended up running most of the trails with just the rear axle that had a packed limited slip. Just saying that if I have the axle apart, it would be really nice to just get it the way I want it and be done.

we may only bring bikes. still up in the air. if matt and curt come i will probably bring the bronco. unless we tow the bikes down with the ranger that is the only way the ranger will go....no time or money. pretty rough right now....working more and making waaaaaay less.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I'm still trying to fix my Ranger from the wreck and if that works out then see if it is still possible to get a tent spot
They won’t run out of primitive tent spots.

Well, I officially have time off to come to this, so it’s booking and planning time.

Two questions though. One, do you have to be 21yo to book at a KOA? Because I’m not 21…

Two, I want to verify where the group is staying. There’s both primitive sites and water/electrical sites and I want to be sure I book with the group- I thought it was said we were doing primitive.

Again, sorry for all the questions. This is the first time I’m camping with not a group I know in-person so a lot is new to me.

I believe it is in one of Jim’s early posts a link to the campsite. And I want to say there is somewhere to say it’s with this group. For the most part we have an even split down a lane of primitive on one side and then electric on the other side.

I don't recall them.asking my age when I registered. Don't mention it unless they ask. Then, be honest. But, if you promise to act responsibly, I could unofficially adopt you. Or, more likely just tell them I need an extra site under my reservation.

As Mrs 85 mentioned, the primitive tent sites are directly across the road from the deluxe tent sites with water and electric. Pick what you prefer. We had people on both sides last year.

Come on out and have fun.

Well, I think it's time for me to call it and officially bow out of this event. Finally got shipment notice on my second cylinder head, but I'm just not going to be able to finish the truck and get it tested before the trip. As it stands I'm barely even going to get the miles on it for a break in oil change before then.

Y'all have fun up there and post plenty of pics.

Sounds good- I’ll ask my friend and see what he thinks, I don’t need electric but he might want it.

That’s what I figured, especially since I can’t find any policy on their website about age. I’ll go ahead and call on Monday then and register, I want to get the group discount if I can :)

And, before I forget- two more things

If t-shirts are still available count me down for one, if you need size it’s a medium.

Two, can someone adjust headcount so it’s me+1, a friend is for sure coming. I just want to be sure Uncle Gump has the right number for pizza planning.
