Reading Jim's original post, it appears this will be an overlanding style event. He's discouraging trailering to the event. Plus, keep in mind this is on public roads. So, it must be a properly registered vehicle with all necessary safety equipment - lights, turn signals, good brakes, windshield, etc.
Overlanding style, but I don't consider this overlanding. I really don't want the Ranger Adventure to get labeled as an overlanding event. I don't even consider myself an overlander, just an adventurer.
Anymore when I think of 'Overlanders' I think of trucks with all kinds of expensive equipment that looks like it's on its way to a SEMA show. My truck is built to go off-road, and I carry what I need to camp when I get to where I'm going. Or to camp along the way. I did this for 3-weeks at a time in 2017 and 2019 but didn't have or need a lot of fancy equipment.
Back in the very beginning when I was hosting gatherings in Wellsville Ohio, I had a desire to create an event that was fluid and not stuck in one place. I get tired of going to an off-road park and being stuck in the same small area all of the time. I loved my 2017 and 2019 trips, but I did them alone. I really enjoyed taking a trip last fall with the Vagabonds.
I also enjoyed Curious Hounds scavenger hunts. I had a similar idea back in the Wellsville days when I wanted to come up with a fluid event that took people out across the countryside, not stuck in an off-road park.
The Ranger Adventure is to encourage people to head out on the weekend, explore some remote areas with their Ranger, see some sites, camp, spend quality time with other Ranger owners, and make some new friends.
The point isn't to turn anyone into an 'overlander'.
I've only had (2) people express interest in going on this adventure in May. One person I know expressed an interest in going on Instagram, and another person we know told him it was an 'overlanding' trip, as if it's something he isn't going to want to be a part of.
I'm still trying to put something together. One way or another I'm going camping and off-roading at the end of April - beginning of May. But I want to explore, see new areas, and face new challenges. Not sit at an off-road park and watch people take turns climbing the same obstacle all day.
