My 91 ranger with the 2.3l dual plug ignition system is giving me two codes. 18-Tach signal erratic (my tach reads way lower than it should), and 88-IDM, DPI, or spout circuit fault. Im assuming code 88 is causing code 18 because the tach gets it signal from the IDM wire on the DIS module. Since I think it is an IDM circuit fault, how would I go about fixing this? Is there a resistor on this system somewhere like the older ones had? Where should I check to resolve this? The truck runs good, so Im pretty sure my DIS module is good, but I could be wrong. Could the engine run that good if the IDM circuit in the DIS is malfunctioning?
