If this is better suited to another section, feel free to move it, Im not even certain its “tire related “ but I feel it’s possible.
On my 2011 escape, I switched to winter tires about a month ago, these were bought about a year ago at a NTB, I dropped off some gen 1 escape wheels (‘03-‘06) and picked them up later. According to the bill I was charged for tpms sensors even though I had said “dont bother, only running them dec-april”, I can live with a dash light for a few months. But of course theres more than that- a annoying chime which can be temporary shut off by a dash button on left side of steering column. Anyhow I did end up getting a tpms tool & tried to sync the new tires to the vehicle, didnt work & we just lived with it last year, well yesterday she says it’s bugging her & how much would it be to stop by NTB & see if this issue can be fixed. We drop it off and later get a call, there are no sensors in that set of wheels (maybe gen 1 escapes had a different stlye or didnt use tpms?) and they were going to try and put a set in (at $40-something per sensor) I said ok, a hour later get a call back, they said it wouldnt work and they could take the sensors back out and I wouldnt be charged. Fine. Went and picked it up, Was given a b.s. story about how the data connector under the dash had no power to it and the sensors couldnt be calibrated to the vehicle. I wasnt charged anything so, just a waste of time for me . I got in the other car to come home, she gets in the escape and we start for home. She didn’t have her phone on her and tried signaling me with horn & lights. Well of course I didn’t notice anything as I had windows up, radio on & Im not constantly watching behind me. She pull off into a parking lot and I continued home. 10 min later shes home & tells me theres a issue, the dome lights constantly turn on & off while vehicle is running. Of course the original issue is still there (expected that) . I tried parking next to the original wheels , didnt help. I hooked up my code reader, everything checks normally there. (so the “no power @ data port” was b.s.) I would try the relearn procedure but I cant find my tpms relearn tool. (ordered another from fleabay) Ive read nothing about flashing interior lights in relation to the tpms crap. I realize its not a ranger but being a ford product something similar could occur with a ranger chassis. Ive pulled the fuse for the dome lights and will just see if I can calibrate old tires back to the vehicle, hope that cures my dome light issue. Ive got a idea involving a sealed tube with sensors inside placed in vehicle but I wont discuss it right now- not even sure that would work. Anyone run into something like this? Im considering putting the original wheels back on & going to the dealership , Im not sure what NTB did but they clearly didnt do something right.
