My credo
the grey-t escape
If this is better suited to another section, feel free to move it, Im not even certain its “tire related “ but I feel it’s possible.
On my 2011 escape, I switched to winter tires about a month ago, these were bought about a year ago at a NTB, I dropped off some gen 1 escape wheels (‘03-‘06) and picked them up later. According to the bill I was charged for tpms sensors even though I had said “dont bother, only running them dec-april”, I can live with a dash light for a few months. But of course theres more than that- a annoying chime which can be temporary shut off by a dash button on left side of steering column. Anyhow I did end up getting a tpms tool & tried to sync the new tires to the vehicle, didnt work & we just lived with it last year, well yesterday she says it’s bugging her & how much would it be to stop by NTB & see if this issue can be fixed. We drop it off and later get a call, there are no sensors in that set of wheels (maybe gen 1 escapes had a different stlye or didnt use tpms?) and they were going to try and put a set in (at $40-something per sensor) I said ok, a hour later get a call back, they said it wouldnt work and they could take the sensors back out and I wouldnt be charged. Fine. Went and picked it up, Was given a b.s. story about how the data connector under the dash had no power to it and the sensors couldnt be calibrated to the vehicle. I wasnt charged anything so, just a waste of time for me . I got in the other car to come home, she gets in the escape and we start for home. She didn’t have her phone on her and tried signaling me with horn & lights. Well of course I didn’t notice anything as I had windows up, radio on & Im not constantly watching behind me. She pull off into a parking lot and I continued home. 10 min later shes home & tells me theres a issue, the dome lights constantly turn on & off while vehicle is running. Of course the original issue is still there (expected that) . I tried parking next to the original wheels , didnt help. I hooked up my code reader, everything checks normally there. (so the “no power @ data port” was b.s.) I would try the relearn procedure but I cant find my tpms relearn tool. (ordered another from fleabay) Ive read nothing about flashing interior lights in relation to the tpms crap. I realize its not a ranger but being a ford product something similar could occur with a ranger chassis. Ive pulled the fuse for the dome lights and will just see if I can calibrate old tires back to the vehicle, hope that cures my dome light issue. Ive got a idea involving a sealed tube with sensors inside placed in vehicle but I wont discuss it right now- not even sure that would work. Anyone run into something like this? Im considering putting the original wheels back on & going to the dealership , Im not sure what NTB did but they clearly didnt do something right.

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Don't rule out that they managed to jack up something else that's not even related to the tires and TPMS.

Does the dome light go on / off in a consistent steady way, or is it random or erratic? In other words, is it something coming from a control unit, or is it something simple, like a door (handle?) interior light switch that has gotten broken or out of adjustment?

Sorry I can't help much beyond that; I don't know much about anything on '95 and up trucks.

very consistent & steady, almost like its hooked up to a turn signal flasher. I just drove it about 40 miles (fuse still out for dome lights) and it drives ok otherwise.

Hmmm; sounds similar to a cowardly lion, a tin man, and a scarecrow.

By any chance, does the Escape have ruby encrusted tires?

The wheel horse will ward off the other two.

Sounds like a bcm issue. Likely a powered short from misconnection at the OBD2.

What other scan tools do you have?

How far from new philly are you....?

113 miles (2 hr drive) according to my map app. ( at first I read it as philadelphia pa. which is 500+ miles & a 8hr drive) my only scan tool is this, would like to upgrade but usually it does what I need it to do, 90% of the time reset the check engine light on hhr for the evap.

Im still not sure, just got a tpms reset tool (again, cant find the first one I had bought) going to try and relearn the original tires to the vehicle and then unhook battery, see if issue corrected itself. Ive not put the fuse back in since ive pulled it, I might do that first for the hell of it to see what happens.

well…, no luck. put fuse back in, still flashes dome lights, unhooked battery for 30 min, didn’t change anything. placed original tires beside each winter tire (not changing tires just to see if fixable) and did tpms relearn procedure, supposedly it worked, horn chirped each time and at end said was successful but when turned on still had message/light about tire sensor malfunction and damn dome lights still flashing. So Ive pulled the fuse -again. May just have to live with it for now, at some point put the other tires on & see what the ford dealership can find. Damn sure not going back to NTB.
Still drives fine, just went on a 50 mile trip, glad dome light circuit wasn’t tied in with the cruise control.
