I hated it too, in the beginning. Now I'm a little easier on the braking and I have learned to defeat it, on our Santa Fe. My MIL's Highlander is the same way. Hard stops seem to activate the "stop" more than the slow gradual braking. I basically stop like I have I glass of water I'm trying not to spill, never depressing the brake to the floor.I despise the start stop in my wife's Bronco to a level words cannot describe.
Also, there's a cancel button on most cars that have this feature.
