Towing Capacity Question

^^^^^^Says the guy who's judging this by looking at a google image of what he wants to tow.... Everyone always worries about towing when they should worry about steering and stopping. Besides, any rental business worth their salt wouldn't let a pre 2011 ranger tow anything over 1500 pounds. It's a liability issue and most rental places won't risk anything if there is the slightest chance of misfortune.

Its a T500 boom lift, tounge weight is 350 pounds, those are facts not a random observation. That's nothing and well within a 4.0 automatic ranger's capabilities (physically and legally) with a class 3 hitch.

I tow my race car all over the country with a total load of more than 3,500 lbs and another 800 lbs or so of race gear on the bed. My Ranger does it with no problem. I can't say I don't know it is there but it certainly does not struggle. With trailer brakes and upgraded brake pads and shoes on my Ranger it stops pretty well too. I imagine 1,500 lbs would be barely noticeable until trying to back up.

I think they were talking cost, not weight. You can buy a pint of ale for a pound anywhere you go. (Way back when. Not nowadays)

1500lbs? That flies in the face of all the engineering that goes into vehicle ratings in the first place.

I have towed one of those lifts before and I wouldn’t hesitate to tow it behind a Ranger.

Don't see why that wouldn't easily be towed behind a Ranger....I mean they seem to think its ok towing 12k+ behind an F150, so pulling an ~2-1/2 ton lift behind a Ranger that's properly equipped would be a problem. Would I tow it behind my 87 4x2, hell no, but the newer 4L equipped Rangers should handle it no problem. You can get it moving with a little 4 cylinder car, its the stopping and turning that create the problems, well and speed...people go flying down the highways with their trailers all the time and you run across them up the road a few miles flipped over in the ditches because they were going way too fast and out-drove their driving skills and vehicle's capability.
