I have a 94 4X4

Anyone install a towbar on the front bumper?

I have a pathfinder and looking to tow my ranger down to San Diego.

Just looking for advice, thanks.

I also have a 94 4x4. Not a tow bar on the front bumper, but one below it. Ended up going with a Reese 65107 front mount. Its tucked up pretty nice. I did end up totally removing the lower air valence. One could trim it rather than totally removing it i suppose.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

I don't think thats what he's talking about. That is a receiver hitch. I believe he wants something like this.

There's also a problem with "flat towing" a ranger equipped with the electric t-case selector, if that's what you have, (I don't remember what year the Ranger started using them) there's no easy way to put it in Neutral. Flat towing with the t-case engaged/ engine off can cause bearing problems. You can select N by unbolting the electric selector off the t-case and manually turning the selector shaft, or you can drop the rear driveshaft while you're towing.

But it's not on all of them... hit and miss, I prefer manual obviously like I strongly believe my '00 V8 Explorer Limited should have come from the factory with the manual 4406 transfer case... it's handy! Except right now with a broken passenger side motor mount, can't use low range reverse...

This is how I attach my tow bar to my rangers. There is a 1/4" thick plate that I put inside the bumper to spread the force of the bolt head from pulling thru the bumper. Also have chains attached to the frame.

It's how I towed my race ranger before I got a trailer. But if I was towing a lot I would build brackets off the frame to attach the tow bar.
