I’ve searched and found that a few on here are using a TL in setup. Does any one have any pics of the shifter location? Thanks!

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
If you're talking about the old top loader 4 speed, the shifter bolts to the left side of the extension housing close to the back end.

Always bite off more than you can chew!! :)
I don't know how to post pic's but I have installed a toploader 4 spd. on the back of a cleveland 351. I had the trans rebuilt by 'Dan Williams Transmissions' who customized the trans to fit the '95 Ranger I'm building. I'm quite sure he shortened the tail piece so the shifter (Hurst Competition) would be in the correct position (fore-aft) for my application. The shortened version 'just' fits at the rear of the shifter opening on the trans tunnel. If you have ANY questions at all regarding Ford Toploaders I would HIGHLY recommend you call Dan. To me he has been the Toploader Czar!! Hope this helps.

The Borg-Warner(BW) T-18 and T-19 were top-loaders and used in Ford trucks so have the shifter farther forward, but would come up under the dash in a Ranger so custom bent shifter would be needed

The Ford top-loaders were used in cars with longer front clips so shifters were on the tailshaft and would come up between the seats in a Ranger

Thanks for the replies, guys. The transmission I haven came out of a 68 Mustang 289. Being between the seats won’t be an issue. Drag truck only.
