Cheapest decent cross bed tool box? Is that an oxymoron?

2nd question, do you get rid of the ads if you become a supporting member?

If you have a Tractor Supply near you, look at their tool boxes. Theirs are popular out my way.

One later Ranger in my neighborhood has not just a cross-bed box, but long tool boxes mounted on top of the bed sides. They have the same diamond-plate finish, and I think all came from Tractor Supply.

The $10 a year supporting membership will get rid of the ads... more importantly it just helps keep the lights on here at TRS.

As for tool boxes... it use to be you could find them pretty easily on Craigslist. Maybe not so much anymore... I've also seen them at local junk yards and sometime just in my travels sitting in someone's yard with a for sale sign on them.

i get mine on craigslist of from the junkyard. junkyard is cheaper at 25 bucks a box but you have to get there before the guys who grab them all and put them on craigslist get them.

if you get a used one with no key, get the little number on the face of the tumbler and type it into amazon. keys are about 5 bucks. sometimes you can get new lock tumblers and assemblies from tractor supply, sears, or places like that

It depends on what you call good. Some boxes are well built, strength wise, but, easily defeated by unscrewing the Phillips head screws holding the piano hinge on, which can be done with the cross over box on the truck. The most secure ones are going to be ones that can be locked using a padlock. I think the question has to start with how much are you willing to spend and if security is a big issue for you.

I lucked out, there was a nice Delta cross bed toolbox for sale in the next town over. I went to look at it today and bought it!

I have a Kobalt aluminum box from Lowes in my truck. It is the smallest one made, by far and I like it because of that. It's pretty flimsy though. Some of the welds on the lid have broke. My dad has the same box in his frontier, same issues, but there are not many alternatives.
