17 degrees here in Fishers with a bit of wind. Colder than a witches teat in a brass bra

They were saying a high of 30 today but I never saw it get past 15. Supposed to go down to 6 tonight. This afternoon they were saying it felt like -2 with the wind. I may be tending the fire tonight…

My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
today at noon it was 14 F but the humidity was very low so a medium jacket was just right.
the sun was out and kept my bald head comfortable.
I find it neat how humidity makes it seem both extra hot AND extra cold.

The top of Mt. Washington was nearly 1/4 of the way to absolute zero at some point last night... brrr!

Apparently there's a theoretical 'absolute hot' too... science figures it to be 141 million million million million million degrees. Fun fact right there.

We had -18 this morning and the wind chill on Mt. Washington (6288 ft) was -108. I'm glad you mentioned absolute zero, it's -459f when atoms fall apart. A negative temperature would have to be below absolute zero- which is impossible. When people say the temp is "negative" it drives me nuts- below zero(f orc) or minus both work, if the temp is really negative, nothing exists..

We creeped out of the single digits yesterday and it's supposed to be pretty warm for February the rest of the week. I'll take it.

Well, since it warmed up some yesterday we were able to put the heat pump on and stop burning in the fireplace. Boiler parts showed up today but I was working on the Ranger and now I’m too irritated to mess with it tonight. Supposed to be relatively warm so I’m not in a huge hurry, be a good evening or rain day project for this week. Be nice to have the floors warm again though.

Low was 39, the high was 46. That's December weather here. The average temperatures should be in the upper 50s/low 60s in the afternoon.
But, it's been an unusual winter here. We received almost a year's worth of precipitation in two weeks that caused a lot of flooding and several storms with high winds that blew over trees. I took a walk along the American River during the high winds. The winds caused a surf on the river. We had an extended break in the rainy weather, but it's been colder than normal most of the time. Now we are experiencing a lot of low elevation snow and that is expected to continue through the middle of next week.

We had about 10 degrees with 8" of snow on Thursday.
At 7am today it was -2, now we're up to 5 degrees and it's snowing. We're supposed to get a couple inches so I'll plow rather than walk in it. Monday night into Tuesday they're calling for another 4-8", that will at least be worth the tractor fuel. I use a John Deere lawn tractor with a 48" blade for piddling storms and a Kioti 2510 diesel tractor for anything really worth plowing.

I think we're supposed to be in the 50's today... and the sun is already bright with clear skies.
