Wind chill was 5 when i woke up this morning. It would suck to live in this kind fo weather for long periods of time but for a day or two, its not bad for us. My wife and i are on leave so we have no reasn to go out and be out in this weather.

Was almost 60 yesterday and rained all day. Around 5pm it dropped to about 10 very quickly. It’s about 5 right now.
Stopped raining though.

It’s better today than yesterday, Biggest difference is the wind isn’t nearly as strong. Its only +3 right now but yesterday with the wind chill it was very brutal, sliding door on the back deck has been frozen shut for 2 days now so yesterday any time the dog needed to go out Id take her out the front door and in between the house & garage. Still got 4 eggs yesterday, 1 today so far. Even with all the tarps on the chicken kennel and the box trailer parked on the side the wind was blowing at, there was still quite a bit of snow in there with them. They were perched up high near the heat lamp, I wasnt sure they would survive but they all made it. This morning I heated up a can of corn for them, maybe a hot meal will do them some good, they did seem to really love it. Got the driveway plowed, my butt is still cold and even with gloves my hands cant take being outside like I used to. Must be a age thing. Have a heater by the sliding door now trying to thaw it out, shoveled about a foot of snow off the back deck. Going to build a actual chicken house this summer. I was planning on it anyhow and have drawn up a basic plan just so I could get a idea on cost. Im at about $500 now so that’s better than the small sheds for chickens Ive been seeing for 2500. For now Im going to grab a hot shower, I just cant seem to warm up after being outside for a hour.

The only thing I did for the chickens and ducks was get a heated water bowl. I was concerned that a heater in the coop would cause too much condensation and cause more problems then it helps.

Heater is in the house by the sliding glass door, wouldnt want one in the coop, Im leary enough over heat lamps in the coop. I got the door unthawed , 3 eggs today, put the blade up so the tractor could be in the garage under roof. Wind finally quit. Its 10 degrees outside right now.

You guys out east, relief is coming.

12* high today, it was downright nice outside. Almost didn't need my coat after the last few days.

Man, this wasn’t supposed to hit here until today, last I had heard on Thursday morning that is. Helped a buddy get a glass shower door in, then stopped to get some beer (restock for the house and gift stuff), then stopped at another buddy’s to borrow a Mapp gas torch and catch up a bit. Was over 30* when I finally made it back home that night. Woke up Friday to 0* and the wind whipping and had to do a rushed Operation Beer Rescue before it froze in my toolboxes. Got lucky there. Been stupid cold since. Supposed to go back up later this coming week though. Boiler was complaining one of the limit switches wasn’t right last night but seems ok today so maybe it was related to how quickly it got cold

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
Last Saturday we got 14" of wet, heavy snow that caused limbs to fall and knocked out power from 3:30 am until 7pm. Yesterday it was about 50 all day with torrential rain all day. In the words of the old guy(younger than I am now) who ran the shop when I started in 75-"it was rainin' like a cow pissin' offen a flat rock". Today it got up to 11 degrees by noon before it started going back down.

The low was 36 this morning. It's foggy. Visibility has been fluctuating between around 60 to 150 feet.

Yesterday's high reached 45. The fog never cleared. As of 4 AM the temperature is 43. A strong front is moving toward the West Coast along with some wind which will probably disperse the fog sitting in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley as it approaches and allow enough sunlight in to reach about 50 for a high temperature. The rest of the week will be wet weather from a plume of moisture originating from just north of Hawaii, so temperature will be about 5-10 degrees warmer than the last several weeks.

Came into work to see several of the pipes in the hangar broke. We’ve been warning about the lack of heat being a problem. Now maybe since it will effect the mission, they might look into fixing it.

I managed to get most of the leaks shut off but CE had to get the last one since the shut off valve was so high up.
