52F and 12mph wind - no snow cover at all; same as last weekend. Then it gets cold (0F) and water pipes start breaking because there's no insulation.

My girl said they got like 6” so far and the roads are bad. Roads are terrible here, nothing has been touched and we are somewhere north of 3” so far. Would like to wait till it’s done to shovel, but I’m probably gonna go out in a bit and get at it because I don’t really want to do it in the dark
That's about what we got so far. It's snowing again, so I might be waking up to incredibly crappy roads at 0500 in the morning. Being that it's Sunday, I doubt any of the township roads have been touched.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
We got 8" a few days ago, yesterday morning it was -17 and right now it's 21 above. Really not bad for the end of January. Generally the last week or so of January and the first of February are the coldest part of winter for us. I've seen 33-36" snow storms several times and it used to always hit -35 every winter, I think -20 is as cold as we've seen for several years now. In the early 80's we had one January where the temp never got up to zero. Cars had carburetors and the driver had to pay attention or they'd flood, foul the plugs, and dilute the oil with gas. The whole crew worked until 9-10 pm for most of the month trying to clear out the tow ins.

reporting in from northwest Ohio. for the first time in recent social media memory it snowed in January.
film and commentary from news idiots at 11.

4-5" of fluffy stuff, used the leaf blower to clear vehicles and some of the driveway.

Crossed threads are tight threads.
Yesterday, the high was reported at 31 degrees and went down to 12 degrees. Today, the high was 25 degrees and the forecasted low is 1 degree.
Dang thats cold, can you even feel a difference between 25 and 1 degrees?

We some howling winds with 40mph gusts for a few days, still mid 70's in the day, low 40's at night. Its usually a colder this time of year. I've noticed warmer winters and cooler summers these past few years.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

Yes. Especially after it has been 1 degree for a while and then warms up to a balmy 25.

"Wow, I only need two pairs of underwear today. I might sit outside and eat my lunch." It was 35 yesterday, I didn't even put my coat on to take out the trash.

In other news. I got a light dusting, didn't even have to clear my windshield. Somehow my neighbor had a couple of inches on his driveway. Not a spec of snow in the southern part of the county where I work.

There is a notable difference and the number of layers you have to put on.

There are lots of guides and piles of advice about cold weather preparations and survival. Nobody wants to pay attention.
Everything including what to wear, how to prepare your home, how to prepare your vehicle, all kinds of things. The info is out there and, with the internet, it's easier to find than ever before.

When it gets really cold and I have to be outside all day, I have fleece lined pants, lined flannel shirt, Milwaukee heated jacket (with the adapter to use M18 packs, a 5.0ah pack, although bulky, will last all day and keep my phone topped off), Carhartt bib overalls and Carhartt jacket. Bought all of the Carhartt long before the latest flap and I’m not about to burn it. There’s other brands that make basically the same thing if I had to buy new. Bundled like that I’m virtually impervious to cold and wind.

I went out and shoveled with mom. Dad is currently laid up and I’m still not up to snuff. We got the main part of the drive clear, I was struggling to finish, was dizzy as hell and came in and froze for awhile under a blanket and lined flannel in a house that’s 74*. 10/10 would not recommend two concussions in 5 days. This shit has long past gotten old. Not to mention it was like shoveling 5” of dust because it was that powdery snow here that you can’t throw any meaningful distance.

You sound like you've never had the experience of stepping outside and feeling the snot freeze Inside your nostrils.

It's awesome! Naht.
