We got about 10” or so. Still coming down a little, but probably won’t really add to it. Mom and dad did a little shoveling, hopefully I can get feeling well enough to go out for a bit and shovel. No idea how much my girl got yet, she’s probably still sleeping and I’m not about to disturb her. She had a rough day yesterday.

the grey-t escape
sloppy mess to & from work, did wish I would of left the car at home but I made it & saved the ranger from another day of a salt bath. didnt do any more today, some wind that kept N-S roads a little drifted.

We ended up with about 6". The snow was surprisingly heavy since we never got up near freezing. Helped a few of the neighbors out as well. If the snow was light and fluffy, I might have let them be but not with what we have. Especially the older couple across the street. The wife is in decent shape but the husband is either using a cane or a scooter to get around. No way I was going to let them shovel.

We had around 8" here, compressed a bit afterwards with a bunch of sleet on top. Heavy, nasty stuff to shovel. Between my parents house and a couple of other places to shovel, my back is not going to forgive me for a couple of days.

HOA at my girlfriend's house handles the street long before the county gets there. But that also meant everything got shoved up against the driveway before anyone could shovel out. That project alone was several hours.

meanwhile, here at the Ohio/Michigan border there is sip-zero-nada snow on the ground.
40 mile to the east, that's lake effect territory and a different story.

Not sure why they started using a grader for a snow plow. .

They did this last year too but they also tried to rip out my field entrance.Took me most of the summer to get it smooth enough to mow in front of the barn.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
But how can they blade "the shoulder" of my gravel road if I do that?

County engineers office is getting a call this afternoon.
Good luck with that phone call.

In my area, the town/county/state can pretty much do whatever they want within X amount of feet from the center of a maintained road.. even if that puts them on "private property" 🙄

There's always pissed off people up here complaining about the dot cutting down the 300 year old pine tree in their front yard that's one or two good monsoons away from toppling Into the road.

Those look fun to run over.
They usually are, but plow truck drivers love to play the game “how close can I get the plow without hitting it”... they almost always lose that game. If he puts those right at the edge of the road, he might only have to fix a little bit of plow damage next time.

I carry a portable radio with me throughout most of our snow storms:
Driver to dispatch: Send a crew to (insert address) with a cover, I just launched a manhole cover into the woods... that one went a good 40-50 yards, no ones gonna find that one.

Following driver to leading driver: Hey Dr. Mailbox... you could try staying ON the road.

New driver to vehicle services: I gotta stop for salt, can you guys replace a headlight while I’m there?
Second in charge of all vehicle services: Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full.

I'm familiar with this game. It's one where the house always wins in the end. This is true even with private snow removal companies. I used to work for one and have seen some things. Also, there is an aversion to shovels. I remember getting out and shoveling around some areas, but most would try to get that skid steer/loader/tractor/whatever within inches of cars, signs, buildings, etc. usually leading to damage. One guy hit an ATM once, which got a lot of attention at 1AM.
