My truck had a TK4 transmission and it was making a noise like static on the radio. Up until a few weeks ago it would only do it for a while in the winter when cold and clear up after a few miles. Now it’s a fair bit louder when cold and hosts down, but doesn’t go away after any length of driving. I figured it was on its way out so I grabbed a TK5 from a local guy to replace it with but it whines pretty bad and the oil gets really foamy. I’m guessing it’s shot, unless I missed something.
So which is worse, whining or static noise? I need to try to get through the winter before major repairs so I need to decide whether to chance the TK5 or put the TK4 back in while it’s not ridiculously cold.
