45-50 is pretty excessive. I run 265/75R16's at around 35-36 psi in the front and 32-33 psi.

*Note*-265/75R16's are about the same size as your 31's...

"Who" calls for it? The sidewall? Never go by that, go by the sticker on the door. It should ride better around the mid 30's range than it does at 45 psi aswell.

For 31" tires for the weight of the Ranger, I suggest to start around 32psi cold (50 degrees F). Maybe even 30psi since you up'd the size.

For tire pressure, I go by from I what see for wear on customers tires. Good numbers to start off by is 32psi @ 50*F for the summer. -/+ 1psi for every 10*F change. 35psi @ 50*F for the winter time.

Yea that is the max pressure you can put in the tire cold under full load. If you read all the writing on the sidewall it will say to follow what the manufacturer states to.
