One of my friends dad died a few months ago, left him the house, car and everything. Well he's selling the car, its an '88 Jag, idk what Model. Its got 35,000 MI, inline 6, the interior and body is mint except the left front fender was hit and the bumper is tweaked, looks like someone back into it. Biggest problem is it doesn't run, it cranks, starting fluid doesn't help at all so I'm guessing its ignition related.

You guys think its a deal? I know Jags arnt the best cars and parts would be spendy but If I can get it running I'll do the body work and probably resell it, who know though I could end up pimping it. Worst case I could part it out and junk the rest and try to get my money back, I'm just not sure.

Here's some pics I pulled off Google, this is exactly what it looks like. except for the front end damage

good deal but beware of the nightmare of lucas electrical, i use to work for jag a while back didnt get to work on those much except oil changes and tune ups , but they run great so long as you are good to them. also of those parts can get pricey

Can't LOSE, either. Might be tough reselling it, but you can hardly go wrong for $300...

shit you can bring it to a junkyard or metal recycler and get 300 for it. I'd do it.

That thing looks pimpin'. I'd keep it just to drive around in, if you decided to get the starting problem fixed. And I'd bet anything that will be worth some money later on down the road, that would be a nice car to give to your kids.

Trust me - you didn't want that car. I worked at a Jag dealer for many years, and those are the worst years of Jag's built.

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
that looks like an XJ and being a 6cyl I would be inclined to believe it is an XJ6. they are a wiring nightmare and it is a simpler to swap in a 350 from an IROC than it is to figure out the wiring on those. I had one for 6 weeks (85 XJ6) that I paid 2 grand for and sold it for $1200 because it just quit running.

Too bad you missed out on it (for parts)...I remeber someone telling me that the earlier XKE models had serious rust issues with the frames...and I'd love to get ahold of one of those regardless...or an old "Simon Templer" Aston Martin...

I don't like the Jags of that era but I'm sure you could've parted it out profitably...

I do like the XK8s though...

That sucks that you couldnt get it. I've heard great and not great things about the 80's jags. My cousin got one for 450 because of engine problems, and he put on 260 thousand miles on it after he bought it without fixing anything.

That is an XJ6. The worst car Jaguar ever made until the X-type which was just a Ford Taurus with fancy trim. I would say buy it and part it out but no Jaguar fan buys an XJ6 so you may have a hard time unloading parts.

I think I would just let it stay your friends headache.
