I know, I know, but you just got this truck? Well ever since I got it (April) I've had to replace the front driveshaft, $900 and put in a clutch, $1100. Now I have a noise in the front diff and I can't afford to do anything else to it since I'll be in college next year, and I haven't nailed down a job yet. Not to mention the terrible gas mileage, 15 (on a good day). I also can't afford to put $40 in my tank every 3 days. sooo... I was thinking about selling it and buying a little 4cyl 5sp ranger to get me back and forth to college every day which is a 40 minute commute. And if I do sell it I can afford to pay my grandpa back who has payed for all the shop bills and I had been working it off. Thoughts? Opinions? idk what to do here, I love the truck but I just can't afford to maintain it right now.

If you can't afford it, I think it would be for the best to sell it and get a small 4 banger truck if you still want to drive a truck.

I have a 4cyl 5spd Ranger, nicely loaded. But I'm not trading. Would like too, but I care too much for my Ranger and I just had the hail dents pulled.

Sounds like a plan, sucks that you have to do it, but that's how it goes sometimes.

I'm considering doing the same thing after I fix my jeep, I would probably get 12mpg with it on average.

I realize a 4x4 may have more repair costs when things go bad, but I cant even imagine spending $10k on the trucks you are looking at. I might just be cheap but I couldn't bring myself to spend $10k on a 2wd regular cab 4 cylinder. I would be looking for a mid to late 90's ranger with the same options with as little mileage as i could possibly find. When Im looking for a vehicle I usually look at all of the states bordering my own, and if you find a good one at a dealership ask if they will drive it and meet you half way. I have done this with a couple vehicles now and it has worked out pretty well. most dealerships will be willing to send a couple porters out to deliver a car to get a sale. When I worked for a Ford dealership I was sent out to on a 4 hour drive multiple times to do a dealer trade so they could get the vehicle the customer wanted. To them it is just paying 2 people $12 an hour plus gas to pick up a car.
