Thanks! It's kind of a budget build in that I don't want to just piss away money on it, but I'm not afraid to spend it on certain things. I am going to get it properly tuned and a set of headers for it. Haven't decided whether to get the heads and intake manifold ported or not yet.
yea youre spending it in the right places. you didn't go out and but a 5.0 crate motor or something

Worked on it again today but didn't get a whole lot done. Couldn't get the tranny crossmember off, couldn't get the flexplate to torque converter bolts loose. Did drain the tranny and took the pan off, fluid looked great and the magnet was clean - really happy about that.

And I ordered a set of Pacesetter coated headers. Still working on the throttle body, but may go with CFM's ported 75mm one.

as much as i hate mutts i can understand a 350 swap. the 4.3.... while still a peppy motor. i dont think is worth the hassle. id just do a 350 and be done

Nah, been thinking about it. Why not be different? Anyone can drop a 350 or 302 in. Doin this is harder & unique. As long as the tranny & axle can take it I'd build the bejesus out of it!

The tranny is the 4L60E so it will hold up for a while behind the little six. The 8.8 will be fine until I can get a 9"

One more chunk out:

Also got the new shifter on order and the ported throttle body will be here this week.

Anyone have a 2003ish column clamshell from a stick shift truck laying around they want to part ways with?

I wish you luck, I find more often than not that something unique isnt always worth the difficulty. I normally go practical because when something goes wrong, I'd much rather have a support base (like the other V8 swap members) to help me out. I like your idea overall, but I also can't help but think that you could have waited and found an engine/trans combo on CL for far less and have better results.

Sure, V8 swaps have been over done like crazy, but...that's because the V8 is a far better bang for your buck.

Don't let me get you down, I'm subscribed and I'll offer as much advice as possible. Good luck!

Thanks. Nice thing is a vortec swap is a vortec swap, no matter how you look at it. This isn't really any different than putting in a 350 or 305 vortec. Sure there isn't the knowledge base for that like there is for the 302, but it has been done.

Also mocked up the shifter a little better. Not mounted, mainly because I don't think I can get to the bolts with the tranny in place, but I think this is where it is going to end up.
