I did also when my brother owned a franchise...and I delivered them on Saturday and sometimes Sunday to keep busy and make some extra pizza...money

Well data bandwidth is sold that way but its the only way it can be done.

If you pay $40/month for internet access at your house, and you are the only one on that trunk then speed would never change
As provider added more subscribers on that trunk/hub, all paying the same $40/month, you could get your "comparison"

And at full load(many subscribers on-line) speed would be reduced until Provider added more Hubs to the area

Yes, Richard also mentioned data bandwidth and I thought of this almost immediately too...and except for the "off road" specific reference it fits.

The off road specification led me to think in terms of a mass produced accessory because I went to talk to a friend about making a part (alternator bracket) for my 2.0 because I couldn't find one anywhere.

My friend owns a machine shop and can make things as one-off but it is extremely expensive...unless I get a bunch of other Ranger owners who needed the same part and that would reduce the costs...

Except that scenario doesn't fit because the reduction in cost would affect everyone...not have everyone pay the same amount...or have the owner come and take part the part back to give to others...that threw me off...

The trail fees fit better...but I've never gone to those amusement parks so I have no idea how well it fits.
