Interesting theory... but I did hear he posted that too.

Trump should have never been put on stage with the activity that was noted... until the known threat was apprehended and venue cleared. It's a total failure of that security detail.

For anyone that shoots regularly... that was a chip shot. I have the "cat on a hot tin roof" theory. That roof had to be screaming hot... bare skin on a metal roof had to be painful and impossible to settle in. Although... he could have been that bad.

Whatever it was... thank God.

Sadly... I feel there will be zero transparency with all the details or accountability to those that failed.
150yds is kinda about where you need to know what you are doing. It's also about where a 5.56 starts running out of poop. Little bitty bullet cant fight wind well either.

Borrowed gun, M4gery probably not really set up for long distance... he had a lot working against him.

What's the worst that could happen?
One other thing...

Does his high school actually have a rifle team? I thought it was a rifle team from a local gun club.

I can't imagine a public school rifle team... but I could be wrong.
Now that you've mentioned it, it does seem kinda odd for a high school. Not like it's a Chess Club or something normal. I went back and checked Fox and confirmed with this:

We had archery in PE.

To add to the confusion if you got a bullseye you got a mini Snickers (again, this was in PE)

Equipment was less than ideal, we were happy to hit the target so we didn't have to look for arrows.

However if you wanted to bring your bow in they would keep in the principal's office for you. I had doubts their targets would stop my arrows so I never did.

We still have a trap team here. Students walking around the school with shotguns. Now the ammo is supposedly strictly controlled. But it'd be pretty easy to hide a few shells in a backpack when nobody bats an eye at the gun.

one of the biggest regrets of moving back home to detroit was knowing young bob was not going to be part of the gun club or archery. and of the concessions i made to my wife for us to relocate back to the city from northern michigan was not being able to shoot where we lived.... she met the rest of my ridiculous demands though which i thought was going to be impossible.... she got me.

lil bob at 11 was hitting clay pigeons at just over 200 yards on posts with his first rifle that was a birthday gift....a .243. after a box of rounds sighting it in with a cheap scope he was 10 for 10. i was 6-7 for 10 with the same setup....in pretty good wind at that as well. so both Bobby and Madisyn have been out shooting me since they were 11 years old....

while Madisyn was away in the Air Force he/we acquired some ar equipment and was training heavily with it for a decent period....and he was also getting quite cocky about his understanding and ability to strip and clean it...

at this point Madisyn was a qualified marksman and was on 240 for quite a few years. when he was about 15 and she was visiting home on leave, ...he talked some shit to her....thinking he was better at handling and shooting then you know...a ....female. she ripped and stripped his springfield and reassembled it so fast...he was in awe....on top of that...that particular firearm was something she had never seen before.

that shut him right the fawk up......i was feeling better about him after that.

these days i am a worse shot then ever....since i was 12 or so i have not been able to see so good....in my 50s its worse. but...it is mostly because i can not afford to shoot. just out of practice.

i think all kids should be trained in firearm safety(not shooting competitively-safe handling or not handling). vehicle safety...and kitchen and powertool safety. how and when to use fire extinguishers and CPR and AED use.

you can never know what people will do with such knowledge...

.but i can tell you that the elders where i used to live handling our program at the gun club were not afraid to run off kids that were unable to to maintain expectations and the seriousness of the level of responsibility that handling any dangerous piece of equipment be it a power saw...a chainsaw a tractor... a bb gun or a howitzer.

i am just grateful trump survived.. but we lost a awesome citizen....a first responder no less....the thought of that man and how he went out breaks me down a bit...then the others ....

but the death and destruction this kid pulled off is not simply because of devices... and who knows what the next one is going to do. and there is a next one. it is because we are failing and afraid of the truth and train and let people believe shit that is not true. mental illness seems to be preferred these days. if you have a litter box at the public school in student bathrooms....those people are promoting mental illness. and there is going to be a whole lot more of this crap because of it.... sorry not sorry.

as to devices..
explosives i have concerns for more then anything. i Know Jim and several of you others are trained in this stuff from the tactical side being law enforcement or military......but damn. turning that page is frightening. theres been alot of houses and food factories and shit blowing up lately. so i suspect that there is a learning curve in process that i hope never sees action. i remember McVeigh.

this kid had both according to what has been reported.

i am with gump. cant see us ever getting the truth out of this.

This seems to me like it's probably a case of a shooter that felt rejected by society and felt he had something to prove, and a security detail made up more of local law enforcement who aren't trained for these situations than SS agents. This is Butler PA. This stuff only happens in the movies. It doesn't happen in real life. Right?? Have you seen the video of all of the police officers trying to figure out how to get through a fence after the shooting? It all seems chaotic.

Supposedly there's a Threat against Trump from Iran. Saturday's shooting has shown the world that our President (I know he's a former President and nominee) isn't that hard to get to.

Our school didn't have a rifle team but there were sometimes rifles in the building. During hunting season, if you didn't want to leave your rifle in your car down in the student parking lot,you could bring your rifle into the office and Mrs. Welch would stand it up in the back corner. Then you'd pick it up at 3 pm on your way out of school. It was 1972 and people knew rifles were tools.

Not to delve into ploitics here, but Biden's out. Wonder who's going to replace him?

I can only feel that this is going to help Republicans more than Democrats. No time left for them to campaign and elect a different nominee. At this point they can only appoint someone, and I can't see that going over very well.

I'll be interested to see what the final excuse is for the drop out. It's going to be tricky to explain why he isn't fit to run again, but is to serve out his term. Maybe that's why they had him do it, he can backout for personal reasons without having to really give an excuse.

This actually will likely severely hurt the republicans. this is the smartest move that the Democrats have made in 8 years. if they get the right person in, the GOP is doomed this November, just because I do not see them losing Trump, who is universally hated buy all the left and even some republicans just as much as Biden was universally hated by all the right including a lot of democrats. if the democrats get a more middle of the road candidate, the republicans will lose. We will see. buckle up, it is going to be a wild ride...

None of the candidates they have been eying are exactly middle of the road. As scary as it is, Biden was more middle road than most of their options. Newsome, Harris, Killery (joking.(...I hope)), etc... None of the nationally recognizable names are very middle road, and some would drive supporters away. Maybe if they could convince Kennedy to come back? Doubtful, but it would also bring massive backlash from the more progressive and extremist side of the party.

I don't think Trump is as hated as media makes him out to be. Vocal minority is definitely a thing, the crying and screaming few get the most attention and coverage.

One thing I do think they have right is that this will be one for the history books. Apparently this (~3 months) is the closest to election that a nominee has ever dropped out, next closest was LBJ at 8 months prior. Combine that with an almost successful assassination attempt on the opposing nominee in the same election cycle. It's going to be interesting for sure.

I definitely agree that it is a much harder battle for the dems since recent events... but I think losing Joe will be a major plus in their favor. the question is, who are they going to shoo in to replace him?
