In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Haven’t had that I years. We used to grow it in Pennsylvania. Mom would make strawberry rhubarb pies. Sometimes I liked it and sometimes I didn’t.

I'm not sure I need 200 cantaloupe... but I guess I could open up Uncle Gumps Fruit Stand. I'm not so sure the growing season is a whole lot different then I'm use to. A little shorter indeed but I'm sure I can work with it. Composting is certainly in the plan... I'm pretty certain I will have to do something right away to get going and then increase the space some each year from what I can compost. I typically start a bunch of my plants from seed indoors each year. I just seem to struggle with good yields on my canning and slicer tomato plants... and typically buy started plants for those. Some years... I can even get two plantings with early girl tomatoes. As for the green house... is just has to be part of the plan. I still think one of the biggest hurdles will be keeping the critters out of it... If I catch them in it... the will most likely become part of the protein section of my freezer.

Rhubarb... that is like a love it of hate it thing. I never liked it as a kid even into adulthood. But it has been awhile... maybe I should try again.

Consider a bog garden and cultivating Sarracenia. I know a guy with a few thousand of them. :icon_thumby:

With tomatoes it's important to grow both determinate and indeterminate plants. It's always a good idea to grow several different varieties, so you get ripe fruit at different times in the growing season, because some ripen much later in the year than others.. That way, even if you're having a bad year for certain types, the other types do excellent. Ensuring a good yield.

You can never go wrong growing too much of anything, because you can trade them with locals that have too many of something you didn't grow.. Many years I end up selling some of my cantaloupe and watermelon, while also giving away several dozen, and also trading some for other vegetables may father and mother enjoy.

I've been gardening for well over 35 years now and I've never regretted planting anything I tried. It's all a good learning experience and trading veggies can get interesting.

One thing I want to do is get back in to growing a strawberry patch like we had when i was a kid. We grew around 2 acres of strawberries back then, and people will pay handsomely for strawberries as well as trading all sorts of things for them.

This coming January weed will be legal to grow in Illinois for personal use, so my crops will change drastically... For trading purposes of course.

Oh boy...

I just got an email from the prospective buyer for my pizza shop. He needs a notarized letter of intent for his bank loan. Now I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to selling a business... but my gut feeling just hit the holy smokes... this deal is gonna happen level.

I wish he would have sent that email in the morning... cause I'm probably not gonna sleep tonight. I don't even drink... but I sure feel like going out and buying a six pack.

NO!!!!!

Sorry. But seriously. NEVER purchase Venus fly traps at Walmart/Lowes/etc. Almost all of them are poached from their native swamps in North Carolina.

Seriously. Just pm me if you want any.

I hear they grow like crazy in Florida. These are just my stink bug defense network in my kitchen.
