Been in the market for a Tow Rig/DD...mighta finally found it! But its a chebby.

'77 C10 flareside, Auto trans, 350sbc

It doesnt look like much, no clear coat left, and has a couple different color body panels, nothing a rattlecan paint job cant fix. Surprisingly not a whole lot of rust on the frame either, leaf spring hangers/shackles are in real good shape too. Starts easy, runs decent, slight case of lifter tick. Its not too bad, probably nothing a little bit of lovin can't take care of. It will need a radiator and a brake hose, though.

For $300 though, seems like a good deal to me :icon_thumby:

So the real question is....is there anything about these trucks I should know about? Transmissions that like to explode, etc

What do ya'll thnk about it? Good deal?

(Bear in mind, the lifter tick shouldn't be a big deal. Failing all else the rebuild kit for this motor is only $189)

No, those are good trucks. It's surising how many are left--they are everywhere still. And if something breaks, you can take anything off any old Chevy and use it. All the trannies fit all the engines, for instance. Not like Ford with 4 different bellhousing patterns in a given year.

Had a 78 for a while. Never was old enough to drive it though.

I'd go for it. That's a good price.

Got any pictures?

No pictures yet, originally I went down to look at an Aerostar Van.... found the C10 in my buddy's yard instead.

Also found out today that it was an Arizona truck... the absence of excessive rust confirms this.

If everything goes smoothly, I'll be picking it up this weekend. I'll post pics as soon as I get it home.

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
There good trucks.

I had a 78 K20 with a 454 and a TH400....chevy bult awesome trucks back then. My favorite will always be the 73-79 F series though.

later,
Dustin

Being an AZ truck you might not have to worry, but check the floor panels. My grandfather's 77 turned into a "Flinstone Special" by 1990 when he literally ran the wheels off of it and started driving his "new" 1984.

They're great trucks. When I was looking for a truck 9 years ago before I found my 1991, I was really wanting to find one of that body style.

The body style was a bonus for me, really like the looks of old trucks, especially the flareside like this.

Everything is looking good for this weekend, keeps up and it'll be sitting beside the Ranger on saturday evening.

C-10s and 20s hold a very special place in my heart. Buy it. I almost bought one as a DD when I thought I toasted my 3.0 completely.

Not bad looking, did you lower it?

The one I'm getting doesn't look as nice as that, going to fix it up a bit and give it a rattlecan paint job. It'll be sufficient for what I need it for.

Things went smoother than anticipated! Its now sitting next to my Ranger a full 24 hours earlier than I'd planned. Title in hand, truck in the drive. Good day, imo.

I'll post pics in the morning, ya know...when theres actually light outside. :icon_thumby:

Pass everything but a gas station. The carburetors on those things goes into mega-pollution/stink mode after so many years, I'm not sure why- but should be an easy fix if this one is doing it...

Doesnt seem to be, started it up today to move it a little bit. Let it run for probably 5 minutes or so. Didn't smell funky or anything.

The only thing thats really annoying is that it doesnt like to go into reverse. You've gotta fiddle with the shifter on the column to make it work. Park, Neutral, 1, 2, and Drive work just fine. Not sure if thats a problem with the column or something else. Either way its something to add to the list of things I'm going to be changing/fixing over the next couple months.

EDIT: I'll put the pics up when my camera decides to cooperate.

Well, I was able to get a night pic of it off the cam. Try again tomorrow (rather, when the sun comes up) for some better quality pics.
