Why you do what you do.

I'll go first....

I created The Ranger Station to be the off-road resource for Ford Ranger enthusiasts.

I drive Ford Ranger's with the TTB front suspension because I get a great deal of satisfaction conquering trails and obstacles that others don't believe it's capable of.

My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
I just want to be different. If' it's been done 1,000 time, why re-do it. Stand out or blend in, it's up to you. I always like the idea of a fast truck, the 454 Chevy trucks from the 90's looked cool. The Ford Lightning was like a dream come true for me because I saw them tear those 454 Chevies up. As a kid in high school, almost every weekend somebody was racing an S-10 against a Ranger. Those Chevy 4.3's were ridiculous, and made the 4.0 Rangers look silly. My goal was to have the fastest Ranger around, but lack of funds and intelligence kept me away from that dream. Now I'm all grown up, have a decent income and TRS to help me fulfill that Dream. That's why I am trying to build an AWD single cab v8 Street Ranger.

Why I do what I do...

I am going to say lack of planning, poor time management skills and a healthy dose of "lets see what happens if I do this." it is a vicious cycle.

Oh and add because I am married and my life is much much easier if I do what she asks me to do.

As for the Ranger thing.. because it is an awesome truck and it is paid for, so no new debt to use it and have fun with it. And like Jim says, it is always fun to watch peoples jaws drop when you do stuff with it that they don't think it is even near capable of doing.

When I quit drinking I decided to do some type of racing. A buddy knew someone starting a grassroots 4x4 off road racing circuit and introduced me. Chuck took me for a ride and I was hooked. First truck that was in my price range was a Ranger rollover. Rest of the details are in my racetruck build.

I grew up - 50's and 60's - in my Dad's rural small town Nebraska shop. He was the best mechanic, machinist, radiator repair man I've ever known and I was hooked. Now retired mechanical/aerospace engineer I get to play with my trucks - 2002 Ranger, 1975 Ranchero.

As for the truck, the older brother and I bought this 2002 Ranger used for Dad in 2004. My two brothers gave it to me when Dad passed away in 2015 and I certainly cannot let this go.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I like working on machines and technology and I love being out in the forests and mountains, whether it's camping, hiking or offroading. Also the challenge of "can my truck go there?"

And like Jim says, it is always fun to watch peoples jaws drop when you do stuff with it that they don't think it is even near capable of doing.
I'm starting to see that. Several times last weekend, I would see people on side-by-sides stop at the top of a hill or obstacle and watch me. I don't know if they were waiting in case I needed help, or just wanted to see if I could do it. It's pretty gratifying.

Allow me to answer as a SxS owner... they didn’t think you could make it.

As a Ranger owner... you can go anywhere a SxS can go.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
I do what I do because it makes me feel good.

The meaning of life? If it ain't as simple as to feel good then I really want no damn part of it.

You should have seen them looking at my TTB axle and steering before I went out there on the cliff for pictures. Pretty sure they thought it came off an alien spaceship.

What do you expect... your “control arms” are too long and bolted to the wrong side of the frame?!?!

It probably did, I suspect it is about as hard to find somebody to align a T-65 as it is a TTB...

“Why do I do what I do?”

I was born to do it. I’m a tinkerer. I take things apart to see how they work. The first time I got my hands on a screwdriver I was just over a year old and I took apart one of my toys. My grandmother freaked out and didn’t know what to do, so she called my mother at work. I don’t see the problem... I put it back together.
