I finished up the bracket and the paint is drying as I type. Pictured: Jetta/Golf fuel filter bracket, New Beetle power steering reservoir, fuel pressure regulator, brake proportioning valve.

And these are the fuel connections for the fuel pressure regulator. From bottom to top: supply from tank, return to tank, supply to filter.

Charge Air Pipes, cont'd

I still had to open up the holes for the MAP and the CCV before I could throw some paint on the pipes. Here's some detail of my ebay MAP bung kit if you haven't seen one of these before:

Cooling System, part 3

I finally got around to painting the radiator and intercooler brackets. With these finished I was able to unwrap them and do my final install.

Wow man. I just read your entire thread. Amazing work! This is something I've always wanted to do. I just don't have the resources to do it. Subscribed!

Thanks man. If you don't mind me asking, what is your biggest hurdle?

Money. And the fact that I don't wanna put too much into my current truck as I am looking for a newer truck. Otherwise my DD would be a TDI powered Ranger.

Are you guys aware of any high torque starters for the 4L? I'm having a heck of a time with my web searches and can't find a darn thing. Thanks in advance.

Try a 5.0 explorer starter, they are reduction starters and might fit, not sure on that though...

Thanks for the idea. I just looked into the 5.0L starter and it appears to have the same locating diameter as the 2.3L which is much bigger than the 4.0L starter.

Yes, but the nose cone should be able to be swapped onto the reduction motor...

Very nice! I'm definitely going to give this a try as I don't think this motor (1.1kW if I'm not mistaken) is going to cut it with 19.5:1 compression.

Thanks Chuck. I hadn't thought of this and will take a peek to see how things look. I'm sure it is even worse with this truck since it has been sitting so long.
I did mine in late Nov., and just through where the blower motor mounts. There was at least a birds nest worth of stuff in there that I was able to get out. If I could have got the other side of the plastic cover off (the engine side) I'd likely have been able to get more out; that, and there is no actual drain hole that I've been able to find...it looks like it just leaks out the bottom of the two halves. I also BG Frigi-Clean (not Frigi-Fresh) it.

That's the last time I'll sidetrack this excellent thread...really nice watching you go through this process!

Chuck
