Tailgate as a sawhorse?

I admit that I've done this with pvc pipe and 2x4s but I used handsaws and cutters.

Ive used my tail gate with a circular saw with plywood, drywall, a chop saw and pipe, tube, angle iron

Ohh also plasma cutting and welding

Tailgates are awesome work tables. I've done carpentry, plumbing, electrical and auto repairs on my tailgates. Anyone who has run a carpentry, plumbing or electrical business out of a pickup knows the value of the tailgate.

I have a peice of 1/4" steel plate with 2x3 square tubing welded to the bottom to leave a gap and make it rigid. It fits in the bed and hangs over the tailgate. I use it as a welding station all the time when I'm working on site. It has threaded holes all over it to mount a vice or bolt down random fixtures or angle blocks. I even have a tarp to go over the racks to block the wind since I hate flux wire welding or stick welding. Works good for setting up the miter saw on it too for wood work too "ick".

Built many many projects on my tailgate.

My grandfathers ‘81 f150 had a “small” circular saw notch missing out of the top of it... he didn’t want to talk about it.

I often will back the truck up to the garage and drop the tailgate so I can do something. My workbench never seems to be clear enough of junk to do any work. Of course if I need the vice thats another matter but for the most part my tailgate is my main, useable workbench.

I watched the new F150 reveal last night. They have put some new features into the tailgate so it works more like a work bench.

I got a lil notch in my tailgate from the chainsaw cutting down firewood

One of my former techs used to be a logger, he had a vice bolted to his F150's gate to hold his saw while he sharpened the chain. I looked at the "work surface" tailgate,too, it'll be hand until the first time the gate gets dented. GM's transformer style step tailgate won't live long on a truck that's used as a truck,either, and I've heard they cost $6000.

I mean... swing gate? WTH do you do with that? Can't even drop it and have a seat. I'm going to be completely lost without a tailgate.

Tailgates are always work surfaces... just the other day I took a saw horse and the '97's tailgate and cut two pieces of plywood to length to make a concrete form...

Yea, a swing gate is absolutely useless. Even a full lift gate like on the ford edge is more useful. You can at least sit under it in the rain or get some shade.
