One thing to note on the gmail app: disable notifications or it will cause the kindle to have issues. the pull down task bar will crash and cause the kindle to be a tad unstable until you reboot it. Once I disabled the notifications, that problem went away.

the above is a pretty good source for putting just about any google play app on your kindle. I have not tried this method yet, but I think I will. I will let you know how it works out
