I've got a 1994 Mazda B4000 RWD with a 4.0L OHV V6 and a Mazda M5OD transmission. The transmission is getting tired, and I was curious about possibly swapping in a T-5 manual transmission in it's place. From what I've read so far, a Mustang 2.8L with a T-4 would have a bellhousing that would allow the T-5 to bolt up to the 4.0L. Has anyone done this swap. and are the results worth the time and effort? Will the stock RWD M5OD driveshaft work with the T-5, or is a different driveshaft required? What clutch and hydraulics would you use, and does the T-5 shifter require any modification to the floor or shifter to work?

I have also read that the 2.8 bellhousing will work, and there is also the Mustang 4.0 T5 that should work as well. Not sure about shifter placement and clutch/flywheel setup, and driveshaft length.

If you get an S10 rear housing you could have a 4x4 T5, though I don't know which transfer case would work.

The M5OD can be rebuilt and is good for most applications, so it depends on what you are looking to gain with a T5, like different ratios, more strength, etc

Thanks for the info on the T5. The main issues with my M5OD are gear clash when shifting into reverse and second gear. There is audible grinding and you can feel it in the shifter. Reverse is by far the worst of the two. A lot of times I will actually start the truck in reverse if I need to back out of where I'm parked to avoid the grinding. I was just curious if the T5 was considered an "upgrade" or if it was better to just replace the M5OD-R1 with another of the same, or maybe a newer M5OD-R1HD.
