We have a 2000 Explorer with a 4.0L OHV engine automatic transmission with blown enginel.
Bought a wrecked 99 Ranger with a good 4.0L OHV engine 5 speed as a donor.
We pulled the engine from the Ranger and put it on the engine stand.
Pulling the engine from the Explorer we found that the wiring harness does not have the connector along the top of the bell housing to separate the engine side from the transmission side.

Everything else looks the same between the two except for that one connector above the bell housing.

While I was hoping for a simple swap it now seems like my only way to move forward is to swap wiring harnesses between the two trucks?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Bill

Not quit following the "extra wire" ???

1999 4.0l OHV Ranger engine should be same as 2000 explorer 4.0l OHV

Manual trans would have Reverse(backup) light wiring which would be in main trans harness on an automatic

Some are split harness some are not. That style sploder may not have a manual trans rpo so it may have an integral harness for the aft section...and that varies across the range.

But...always best to run known harness.
