Good afternoon all. My friend took out his factory 1990 bronco 2 transmission in favor for one out of a 1992 explorer. This goes from 1 to 2 solenoid controlled sifting. Do I need to swap valve bodies??? Wiring ideas are much appreciated. Thank you!!!

Looks like you need a different computer setup and harness or you won't have a 3-4 shift. This is from the AL4D transmission article in the tech section.

Best I can tell from ATSG manual, the changeover date for single to dual solenoid versions occurred in mid '88 The single solenoid originally on the trans 85-87 controls only the TC lockup function. Later models had the 3-4 shift inhibit solenoid added in 88. And I have both a 90 2.9 A4LD and a 93 Explorer A4LD here, both have the dual solenoid setup.

In the link below, the guy replying alludes to the fact you may be able to change out the valve body.
